What the hell do you do? Poor little guy is just hopping around
while mom and dad squawk. Home appears to be 30 feet up a cypress?

Ideas??

Thanks

FOUND A BABY BIRD:
• If the young bird is hopping and running away from you, leave it be. His
parents will find him.
• If he is in immediate danger of outdoor pets, scoop him up and put in
a nearby bush or shrub out of harm's way.
• If you find a baby with little or no feathers and you know where the nest
is, then return the bird to its' nest.
• If the baby/fledgling is cold to the touch, take it inside to warm before
placing back in the nest.
• Nestle the bird in a warm towel or use a hot water bottle with a towel
between the bird and the bottle.
• Place the bird in a warm dark, quiet place away from children and pets.
• Do not attempt to feed baby birds or fledglings.
• If you cannot find the nest or the bird appears to be sick, injured or
your pet brought the bird home still alive, then click the Wild Bird Rehabilitation
contact information.

This is what I know about it, which isn't much. What ever you do don't handle
the birds, the parents will abandon them if they have human sent on them.
If they are around bushes or under something the parents will feed them
on the ground. Try to keep cats and dogs away. There's not much you can
do about raccoons.

That's about all i can say. Good luck!

Good stuff. The little guy has very few feathers, but lots of
attitude...

I found this:

http://www.wildliferescueinc.org/tips.htm#Baby%20Birds

and since he cannot fly at all, and can barely hop around, we
made a nest for him out of a box and wire-tied it up in a tree.
It's covered in dry grass inside, and he settled down pretty quick
when he got in there. Now, when he gets hungry, he can squawk
for mom and dad and hopefull they will feed him.

He was nice and warm BTW.

yipes!

cute little guy. I hope he makes it.

thanks

Like all game birds, roast baby blue jays have succulent juices that should
not go to waste. In this recipe, every drop is captured in rice that has
been cooked in chicken broth, then tossed with diced fresh mango and chopped
cilantro.

4 whole baby jays, about 1/4 pound each, neck and wing tips removed
Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup hot red pepper jelly
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
Lime wedges

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Adjust the rack to the middle of the oven.

Remove necks and wing tips and pat the birds dry inside and out with paper
towels. Discard any excess fat. Rub the flesh and cavities with salt and
pepper. Put the birds in a roasting pan breast side up.

Roast for 15 minutes. Reduce the heat to 350 degrees and continue roasting
for another 18 to 20 minutes, or until the juices run a rosy color when the
meat is poked with a fork.

While the birds are roasting, soften the red pepper jelly in a small pan
over medium heat. Stir in the ginger and lime juice. Generously brush the
glaze on the birds during the last 2 or 3 minutes of roasting time.

Serve the birds on a mound of rice. Serves 1.

This works for lost kittens and puppies too.....

That's what I thought too. but evidently it is an old-wives tale.

-----
It’s a myth that the parents of a wild bird will reject a baby
touched by human hands. The fact is birds have almost no
sense of smell.

Last night, mom and dad were flying over to him in his new box. Looks
good so far.

I love these Jays because they hate our cats! They will perch on the sill
and peck at a window right in the cats face for hours. Drives the felines
bats. I love it. Yesterday one of them paraded and squawked at the
cats right in front of our screen door for a good 30 minutes with both
cats sitting there frustrated out of their minds... heh heh

More Jays please...

Here in SoCal, there are two kinds of cats:

Inside-only cats

and

Dead cats (Dog food or roadkill)

Both of ours stay inside. Which makes the Jays very happy...
