Hi Deej-

Just curious- now that you've used the Neve 5042 with Cubase for
a bit, what do you think? Do you still find that it brings a
lot of the Paris warmth and air to the mix? Still worth the
money?

Thanks for the input-

Chris

It's still here and I have paid for it instead of sending it back.

Yes.

Still worth the

I traded some services, cabling and gear that I was going to sell anyway
plus $800.00 cash for mine. These are $1650.00 directly from the factory or
$1750.00 from Mercenary. Were I going to have to pay $1650.00 for it I'm not
sure, but I really like what it does for the Cubase 2 bus. Thing is, that I
don't really think the Cubase 2 bus sounds bad without it now that I've
accustomed myself to it a bit. If I were using Paris, I wouldn't send the
money on it. Paris doesn't need it...cubase......maybe, depending on what
you're looking for. I like that *familiar* sound I've been hearing for years
with Paris so the 5042 has eased the transition to the different sonics of
Cubase. As I use Cubase more and more, I find I'm able to get some mighty
pleasing sonics out of it anyway. I just have this sneaking suspicion that
UA Dis going to slap us upside the head with a tape emulator pretty soon.
That's the kind of thing they do very well. It could well be superior to the
Neve 5042. Those guys are good at what they do and tape emulation has been
at the top of the request list on their forum for quite a while. Wouldn't
surprise me if they had an Ampex and a Studer on a bench somewhere with
codegnomes crawling all over them.

Unless I had $1600.00 that I would die if I didn't spend immediately, I
might hold off until summer NAMM and see what else pops up.......but
yeah.....I do like it and use it a lot.

;o)
