I thought you guys might be interested in this. Harrison is having a sale on MixBus until June 16th for $39.00 for all three versions. Mixbus can import PAF, WAV., SD II, and more. I thought it might be beneficial for Paris users.

Some info on Mixbus:

Mixbus is not just a mixer GUI, it is Harrison's emulation of their 32-series and MR-series music console which includes emulations of their EQ, Filter, Compression, Analog Tape Saturation, and Summing. They also offer plugin bundles, that integrate into the mixer. With the latest version of Mixbus, the Windows version uses VSTs, and OSX uses AU plugins, and they all use LV2 plugins.

From what I read, Harrison set out to create a virtual Harrison console with the Harrison sound. They felt to get the whole sound they had to create the whole console to get the sound not just a channel strip. They didn't want to create a whole new DAW so they looked for a DAW that they could modify to make it sound like, and work like their console. the only DAW that they could get the right to modify was Ardour. Ardour is on all platforms and they feel that it will be developed further over time and get even better. Their whole concept is mixing down on a virtual Harrison console. Some people like the sound, the speed and work flow of Mixbus.

I wonder if someday we could use it with Paris hardware as an alternative or additional option to Paris 3.0.

Here is a comparison video between Reaper and Mixbus of a mix down. You be the judge.

Definitely a noticeable difference but I imagine if you threw something like a Slate FG-X on the Reaper mix buss you could easily match the Harrison for sonics

Of course for $39.00 it's a very good deal.

edit: I decided to pop for if and do my own A/B comparison

Well I am happy to report that so far I am unimpressed with Mixbus.

Compared to Reaper it's cumbersome, verging on unwieldy.

Too many hoops to jump through to do what you can in Reaper with a click and drag or single click.

Has crashed on me several times when instantiating sends or inserts.

As a result of the above I didn't even bother to try out the editing capacity of the program so I can't comment on it's ease of use....I'll leave that for another to investigate

For me I'll just slap a Slate FG-X on the mix bus in Reaper and be done with it.

A total waste of $40 in my view....now for someone with no DAW - I'd still recommend Reaper

Hey Don, thanks for reporting back. I read some good things about Mixbus, and because it will import PAF files I thought it might be another option for Paris users. They were talking about some kind of mojo with the sound. I dropped the 40 bucks and jumped in too. Hopefully it will be another tool for the toolbox, or another color for the palette. I think it could come in handy for some one that no longer has Paris hardware, but still has old PAF files that they would like to mix down. Obviously, Reaper is a full featured DAW for not much more money. My hope is that they get Mixbus rocking. I hope it becomes a good option for paris users. My problem with slate is the dongle, I hate dongles!

I spent another day playing around with it and although my original comments still stand I have to admit it does do some things well and like you will use it as another tool in the toolbox for it's particular mojo
