Hi,

I am a longtime Paris Pro user, and my old PC bit the dust a few months ago, and I am ready to buy or build a new PC on which I'd like to use Paris Pro with the XP drivers.

I currently use 1 EDS card and have a MEC with 12 inputs.

Can anyone recommend either an off the shelf machine, or the specs needed to ensure a good build?

Thank you much,
Tom

We're going to get a database built to help with questions like this, but in the meantime the guidelines are considerably relaxed now that Mike's built the new drivers. It seems to be the general consensus that a machine that's good for digital audio will be generally good for PARIS nowadays.

But this discovery of Mike's bears repeating; Nvidia chipsets appeared to deliver significantly better performance than AMD. Mike was getting the problems while using an expansion chassis, so all info from two EDS cards was being channelled down one PCI slot's pipeline. Perhaps the chipset's comfort with this might be a factor (we don't know), but bottom line is that NVidia chipsets didn't exhibit the same problem.

Thanks - one question that keeps coming up -

Can a "Vista downgrade to Windows XP" operating system work with the new Paris XP drivers?

I'm a new Windows user (I grew up on Mac) so I have no idea. Do you have the option of reformatting the drive and installing XP from scratch?

I'm pretty sure you're going to have to blow out the hard drive and start from scratch with XP.

I would imagine that Mike A will pop in with his views on this
