Best native f/x follow up [message #82944]

First, thank ye all mightily for your suggestions. However, a question. The
prices of many (most?) of these bundles is as much or more than another UAD
card, and close to another CW card (the 7 DSP one at least). Beyond that,
buying two of the bundles would get me awfully close to a Duende, which is
getting rave reviews and would give me 32 SSL channel strips. Wouldn't I
be better off with the free/cheap plugs and one of those?

Only if you can get the Duende drivers to work with windows.........which,
last I heard, don't.

Hi Thad..

In my best of list, I saved a lot of money buy purchasing via group buys..

Personally, while I like the UAD plugs, the Dongle card does nothing for
performance. That's why I have opted for the Sonalkis and now even the Sony
Oxford plugs as my vintage processor plugins.

Both are very easy of the host cpu(s). So you can really load up on a big
session.
I have nothing against UAD, TC..but, If I were going the Powered(Dongle)
routed , I'd opt for the Focusrite Liquid Mix.

I've had a chance to demo the unit on a session and it was very Very nice.
Their Comps and Eq emulations are right up there with the best of em.. And
Focusrite keeps adding new plugs and updates for Free. You should Check it
out..

Interesting, LaMont, and thanks for the advice.

It's funny, I was one of the loudest voices for native but the prices and
the good stuff really seems outlandish to me.

Thad, if it makes any difference for you to know this, most of
the plugins that are my mainstays are either fairly inexpensive
ones or free ones..... and I say that while keeping in mind
that all of you here know what a "resolution junkie" I am.

I think I'm going to try the Liquid Mix and then use free/cheap native stuff.
That looks like the best option from here.

Good lord I've spent a ton of money on gear in the past few months . . .

Audio gear and good wine/booze are my only expensive vices. But I've been
burning through the cash on the audio front. Well, if it makes the next Mold
Monkies record sound as good as I think it can it'll all be worth it. And
unlike the bottle of 1996 Burgundy it will still have some value in a few
months.
