Hi All

Been working with a 3 card paris rig running on ME for years. But it fell
apart last week so I'm going to make the XP move. I would really be
greatfull for input on stable hardware setups that some of you may be
running.

The only hardware that I want to use from my old set up besides the three
Paris cards is a Matrox G-450 duel head video card.

The most stable mobo I've ever seen with a G450/Paris rig is an old ASUS
A7V8x. I've been running Paris on this with an AMD XP 2800 CPU for almost 3
years. I'll likely never build another Paris rig. I'm running two G450's AGP
& PCI with no problems.

Thanks for the input DJ
I was running a a7v333 with Me but when that one gave up XP seemed likethae
thing to do.I found a gygabyte GA-7n 400 pro 2 sitting around here not
doing much so I built on that. So far it seems to be bug free with XP. I
thought that there would be a bigger response but I think paris is fading
fast I'm moving PT HD for post work but will still do album projects on
Paris if I can

Deej, does this Mobo have sound on board? Aren't there different versions of
the board, the A7V8x, A7V8X-X and A7V8X-LA. Which one do you recommend?

I'm using the A7V8X -LAN for Paris. I also have the standard A7V8X here as
well. either one will work fine. The both have onboard AC audio, though I've
never used it.

HI Rich,
DJ is right on the board advice. The board works great. If you can
find em I'd buy a few at this point as well as the chips. You'll only
find used and refurbs now more than likely. If all you ever plan to do
is run Paris on it then it will work perfect. I would also us 98SE or
ME. Thats where Paris works best.

Thanks Chris, thanks Deej. I've been planning on getting an A7V8X for a
while now. The Abit BH6 with an overclocked Powerleap PL-iP3/T is doing just
fine but I want to get all the processing power I can out of Paris and
so........ time to move on. Will the AMD Athlon read the hard drive the same
as the Intel based chip, or will I have to copy the drive to a new drive on
the new system? I seem to remember some issues with different processors not
being able to read the hard drive.

It should see it OK, but it may not function properly without a clean
install. There will be an entirely different bunch of drivers used for the
chipset and onboard perhpherals for the A7V8X. Whether or not these will
play nice with everything that was installed on the system drive for the
previous mobo is a crapshoot.

My experience has been that reformat/fresh OS install is the best policy.

reformat and reinstall. the boards are way to different. I would suggest
picking up a new drive for the system and use that. 80 gig drives are
very cheap. YOu'll have to reauthorize Paris ...should be fun. But you
would have to do that anyways if you changed motherboards.
