hey guys. PARIS is still alive in the mainstream music biz.

i just remixed this for mainstream airplay... "hot a/c".

http://www.box.net/shared/skbliiz8ck

mixed in nuendo 3.2... sending stems (vox, drums, bass, guitars, etc) over
to paris via 20bit lightpipe, then 24bit spdif from the paris main LR back
into nuendo to print the mix. the nuendo computer has an old hammerfall
9652. mike's ported dp4 stereo buss compressor is inserted on the global
master. and paris channgel eq's are used on the incoming stems for some
extra sculpting near the end of the mix session... mostly dipping out some
stuff here and there to make room for the vocal or other stuff etc.

mixed in my home studio... with non-professional acoustic treatment (ie did
it me self), dynaudio BM6A's and no analog gear in the mix path anywhere.

rock.

That's a great sounding mix. Very full and rounded.

Is "a/c" alternative country? or alternative contemporary?

nicely done. dynamics are very professional and in the pocket. I assume
you might like critiques too so here goes.

I would pull the hihat down a tick and other freqs in the 8khz range and
turn up the above 14khz to add more "air".

I personally like more crack on the snare with more room sound on it but
that's just me.

Guitars sit nicely but seem panned a bit too extreme. I like 80/20 panning
so there's some bleed. They might even go up a tiny tick.

Bass guitar needs to come up

The volume drop at 1:52 is a bit too noticeable.

BRAVO !!

adult contemporary.

hot a/c are stations that don't play some 'normal' a/c tracks and play some
top 40 tracks. generally, the hot a/c format is more 'edgy' than a/c.

thanks for the comments.

yup... the version i turned into mastering has less hats. i'll let him
worry about the air.

if i have double tracked guitars... they are always hard L and R. standard.
if i can, i like to feature one layer left and another on the right. it
worked perfect in this track... leaning the chimey ones left and the
crunchier ones right.

> Bass guitar needs to come up

yup.

thanks for the comments.

Wow, that's very nice. Cool song, and I love the little guitar thingie
before the verses. Definitely sounds pro to me.

You say "mainstream music biz" . . . is this your music? Or who . . . ?

If I had any "criticism, " it would just be that it sounds a little more
squished than I like, but is that because you want it extra squished for
mainstream airplay?

Anyway, nicely done. :)

no... not my music. i just re-mixed it for mainstream radio release.

the "squishing" has nothing to do with mainstream airplay.

thanks for the kind words.

What??? Man, Just up and keep those lame crtiques to your self. That's a finished
record..

Engineering a mix is art. The mixer is an artist. This is his or her (mix)
vision. Then, it up to the listener to make eq choices to please on their
car, home or mp3 devices.

Jeremy's mix is radio ready and will translate very well on the airwaves..

Would love to hear it, but the file is no longer available. You're getting
good review, though.

In addition, in my experience, broadcast limiters (the ones on radio stations)
and internet compression don't necessarily like that artificially boosted
'air above 14 khz' trick.
