I think that politics is organized corruption, that's what it is. They take
money from us that they haven't earned and spend it on whoever elected them.
The upside of this is the interstate system, the downside is bags of money
changing hands for construction contracts and no show municipal jobs.
I also think that it's hard for anyone who hasn't lived on the urban east
coast, say between DC and Boston, to understand how much local politicians
have to sell out to get elected and re-elected. There's all kinds of greaseball,
19th century, Boss Tweed, Tammany Hall bullshit that goes on out here that
I just don't think happens in the rest of the US.
Personally I think that might make Guliani a more effective president, he
knows how to manage corruption, which is politics, pretty well. But our national
elections are about theater, smug displays of vague featly to the flag and
bible, they have nothing to do with actual politics.
