Hi all,

I may be putting together a new system so as to have a separate tracking (live) and mixing setup. What is the current cost of Paris 3.0?

Also, can 2.2 run on XP? I thought not but wasn't sure. My tracking system doesn't need 3.0, but the computer I want to use is already loaded with XP.

Thanks,

Ron

PARIS 2.2 runs on XP with no problems. 3.0 adds a lot of great features. The price of V3 is $295, unchanged since 2001.

V3.0's cost in 2001 represented about 10% of the price of a Bundle 3; that was definitely good value. Today the market value of a Bundle 3 has dropped by 90%, yet the price of 3.0 software hasn't. The fact that V3.0 now costs as much as the hardware it runs on has completely rewritten the market equation. Today, if you want V3.0, the forum's recommendation is to shop for a used Bundle 3 with a transferable V3 license instead, and 1) double your live tracks 2) double your live mixer channels, 3) double your live FX and 4) double your live i/o - all for more or less the same money.

Think of it as paying full price for the software but getting a free (or dirt cheap) Bundle 3 thrown in too.

I'm not meaning to bust the chops of anyone at Intelligent Devices, but given those market realities they need to get on the ball on this.

Thanks for the quick response...next question:
Do the new drivers work with v 2.2?

If not, do I only need the Scherzo driver on the EMU website to make 2.2 work with XP, or do I need something else.

Thanks,

Ron

Hey Ron - you'll definitely need specific XP drivers, not just the ones on the EMU site. If you're on an older single-core CPU you can use the old (free) ones - they've been a mainstay of PC-using PARISians for five years now. But if you want to use a more modern multicore/multiprocessor CPU, you'll definitely be wanting Mike Audet's drivers. They cost $50 and they offer significant bugfixes and general stability improvements - but I think they'd be worth that much just for the tech support. I believe 2.2 works fine with Mike's drivers.

I don't know how it's supposed to be done properly, but when I've done it myself it was via two emails. Seller notifies ID via email that they're selling/transferring their license (and deleting it from their own HD) and who to. The purchaser then contacts ID via email and lets them know they've bought the license, and who from. ID updates their database. After that, the purchaser boots 3.0, gets the challenge code offered to them at first boot, and emails it in to ID who then sends the appropriate response code.

Without the response code being entered the PARIS 3.0 app goes into a seven day demo period and then expires. So you might want to remind your purchaser not to boot 3.0 until they're ready to get the challenge/response underway.

I seem to recall ID sets one day per week aside for maintaining PARIS licenses. Your purchaser probably won't want to get caught with an expired 3.0 demo with no code and projects saved in 3.0 format (which aren't backwards compatible) so they'd probably be best to boot it and get the challenge code at the beginning of the week. If all goes well they should have the response code from ID well before the demo period expires.

Thought so - there have been anecdotal reports of folks experiencing delays, but ID's definitely still supplying and maintaining challenge codes. Enjoy 3.0, it's a significant upgrade, and 3.0 will let you take advantage of a pretty big advance that just arrived (I'll post a separate thread).
