So I was working on getting my PARIS rig running through Microsoft RDC;
armed with this, I'd have the desktop of the PC that's running PARIS
appear in a window on my G5 running OSX, 10.4.11.

Network problem after network problem. The onboard networking on the PC
was hosed somehow; the Mac and PC didn't enjoy chatting through a
crossover cable; my desire to have the PC be "internet free" meant
plugging directly into a second network interface on the Mac rather
than through the DSL modem and that was "interesting" to configure.

Armed with new second router (dedicated to administering internal
traffic), new network cards, new cables, etc, I crawled under the desk
(I haven't built my studio desk yet and the current arrangement is
somewhat primitive, cramped and awkward), got the new cards all
installed and hooked up and configured and RDC popped up.

But alas, PARIS would now not boot at all - hardware on master card
could now not be found.

Ah, I said knowingly. It's the IRQs. The network card must have screwed
them up.

So there I go under the desk again, swapping slots and juggling cards,
replacing a fading mobo battery while I'm at it (EDS cards do an
excellent job of physically blocking access to my motherboard battery),
unplugging, replugging. Nothing. PARIS is as dead as the proverbial
doornail.

And then I wonder if it's not lying to me at all; if there's actually a
good reason why PARIS really can't see the hardware. So I crawl back
under and there's the MEC cable hanging loose, unplugged during one of
my gyrations (power was off on everything of course).

Plugged it in, and of course up it came.

An error or two to track down (PARIS won't boot for me by clicking the
icon over the network - I get an unhandled exception if I don't boot it
from the PC) and there it was - PARIS running very smoothly and nicely
and happily in a window on my OSX desktop. Files transferrable over the
network (I can't "push" files from my Mac using RDC, I have to drag
them in from the PC side, but I'm going to address that outside the RDC
app).
