Well Thad, since you ask, yes, I turn off software update in the system preferences
on my Macs, I also use a software that installs at the kernel level, that
tells me if any software is trying to connect, which I can deny. With Mac
OSX you can manually or automatically check updates if you want, you can
go to apple's web site and down load any updates you want, but you should
already know all of this being that you network Macs and know all about them.
I've used XP sp 2 on other systems, I've never installed it on my system
due to the problems other people have had and the whole mother ship thing.

Hey Chris,
Sorry I didn't get back to you. I wound up with a decent USB interface that
I think will get me by for my laptop work. So I'm passing on the ExpressCard
RME thing for now. But thanks for asking.
