Good news and bad news...

Bad news. The little guy died over night. My wife got home and found
a little baby jay, looking quite good, sitting in the lawn. Well, I thought
the little bugger had jumped out of his box, so I went and got our
improvised nest out of the tree only to find a dead baby Jay. Damn damn
damn... I was most unhappy. I have no idea what happened. Mom and
Dad were guarding my little nest and everything.

The live one on the lawn was his sibling of course. He was still 1/2
down and couldn't fly at all, so I called up a friend, and she took him
in. She has 20+ birds and rescues baby birds all the time, so this one
is in good hands.

She thinks a week or two of being fed, and he can be released.

Knock on wood...

Good news DC.
My girlfriend is a huge fan of wild birds. We've spent a lexicon or two's
worth on seed, feeders and more seed. I'm lousy quoting chapter and verse,
but isn't there something about "what we do to the littlest...??"
Take care man.

Oh absolutely. We all cried a bit that the first one didn't make it, and
then the second one did not want to eat... Then this morning he started
eating quite well... We can't wait to release him in a couple weeks.

best,

DC
