Strange. I decided to restore my Paris computer since I was getting many
lockups along with weird happenings while using my studio. I started from
scratch (windows 2000) and got everything installed and up and running.
However, I didn't adjust the system.ini or the paris.cfg yet, but started
using the system with current projects. All was fine except; when I completed
recording a track, I immediately hit rewind. I sometimes get a alloc error
if I hit the rewind too fast [must hit stop, wait a few, then rewind]. So
I change the system.ini to reflect:
[VCache]
MinFileCache=51200
MaxFileCache=56320
and I changed the paris.cfg to reflect the i/o size to 256. I reboot and
now when I close Paris, it locks up, forcing me to turn off the computer
manually. Anyone had this same problem? I am gonna go back to the old settings
in the system.ini and try that, but was wondering if those numbers are too
high. Btw, this is the first I restored my Paris system for quite a few
years. I am getting tired of these sporadic lock ups or alloc errors and
I was hoping to find the culprit. I am on a dual Pent III (1 Gig), Win2000
and one EDS only, 768 RAM, lots of harddrive space.

Ed,
I don't think Paris works with dual processors or Win2000.
Wait for others to confirm that though.

I thought maybe it was loading up the impulses.Neil,
If you want, I can post your comparison files up on my web site so people
can get to them easily.
I've already got some files from Tom Bruhl posted.
I'm waiting on a couple more files from DJ so I can post up two of his
"shootouts". There are a lot of files though and it's taking a little while
to get everything in order. It should be ready soon. ;>)
Morgan is also working on getting a couple of "shootouts" ready for me to
post up.
It would be kind of cool to have a bunch of these comparisons all in one
place for people to refer to.
Let me know!
Thanks,
Tony

For what it's worth, I remember I.D. saying years ago that the three solo
limit was a function of the way the busses were allocated in the hardware,
or something to that effect. No one thought it was a good idea, it was just
a physical limitation of the technology. I know it's hard, but we all have
to try and remember that the PARIS technology is the better part of ten
years old. It sucks, but what ya gonna do?
