Hello, hello.....any ideas about a couple of error messages; we know 7/7
is IRQ conflict, even though device mgr says "no conflict" Paris wants 11,
so does video card, so does IRQ holder...2 times !! Trouble is, can't change
IRQ number, not allowed in OS ( 98SE ) How to change it in BIOS...I'm not
in there much !
Also, anybody know error 40/48....finally, why would anybody buy up a
program as sweet as Paris, put it on the shelf, and leave us with ProFools,
Cubes, etc. etc....
just cranky tonight, I'll be better tomorrow.......pieces, Ced

Regarding IRQs, the lower the better. In your BIOS, disable everything you
can. LPT1, COM1, COM2, onboard Sound, USB, anything you do not have to
use. Then the EDS cards will find the irq and be happy. Check out your
motherboard manual to see what slots share IRQs and make sure not to use
them. If slot one shares with video don't put an EDS card there. If slot
3 shares with the onboard soundcard, don't put an EDS card there unless you
turn the soundcard off.

I don't have a note for a 40/48 error but you can see my notes here www.kfocus.com/paris
and look under "bugs and troubleshooting".

I never had a reliable setup with paris so i switched to cubase. You apparently
have never used cubase or protools because if you had you would not disparage
them. When it comes to a DAW you can make great music with, they all can
do it but cubase and protools are in the ferrari class and paris is in the
edsel class. It's simply a 12(?) year old program that had a very small
team developing it so it's just "not all that".

hey, John-

give Ced a break. I told him to post here, and said all the bright Paris
guys would undoubtedly be able to help him. In fact, I said all the bright
Paris guys would fall all over themselves, rushing to show off their vast
knowledge and help him.

I didn't think the first post would disparage him for trying to get his Paris
system working like it used to. If I had a nickel for every post on this
newsgroup that disparaged Protools and Cubase I'd be a rich guy. Ok, maybe
a dollar for each post...

He's a musician, not an computer engineer. Have mercy on the guy.

The reason he likes Paris is the same one I do.. no latency. No latency with
an old computer, yet. And, as a matter of fact, every time I turn on Paris,
I do enjoy. A lot. I have two stable Paris systems, one on an old Mac and
one on an XP machine.

Ced has had many successful years of using Paris and Windows 98, but his
machine's hard drive is maxed out. I urged him to stick a big hard drive
into it or else bite the bullet and get Paris running on XP. So he did the
XP thing (I think on a newer computer), but can't get the insert FX to work
(I think), which I seem to remember has something to do with not installing
on XP exactly as directed. I assume someone here will tell us exactly what
causes that, since I can't seem to locate the exact post which tell.

I already pointed him at your help site (couldn't find the exact page that
he needs at your troubleshooting thing) and to Doug's site.

Thanks for the good tips. I'm not a Windows guy. I think one problem of communication
is that Ced asked some general questions instead of giving you an exact rundown
of his system and his exact problem.

I'll try to get him to post a more explicit description of his system and
his exact problem.

If I can get him on the phone. . .

Hi Cedric,
Happy Thanksgiving.

If Paris EDS card(s) are sharing IRQ with graphics card move your
EDS card(s) over one slot and see how the IRQs line up. If they
share with graphics it'll never work in my experience. Moving the
EDS cards in the available slots is your easiest fix without messing
with software and the bios. =20

If you want to mess with software go to the bios and disable all
the things you aren't using like USB (unless you are using it for a =
drive
or mouse), onboard sound card, parallel port, serial port, Firewire =
1394.
This will buy back a few IRQs from the start. You may not have to move
your EDS cards if you're lucky here. =20

We've all been down the road you're on many times before. Patience is
critical.

Good luck,
Tom

Hi John, thanks for the info , I actually have already tried this, but got
stuck 'cause I didn't want to get rid of any of those items...can't have
everything , I guess, also, moving to another slot made no difference....oh
well!.... and apologies for the disparaging...as mentioned at the end of
my rant, I was having a bad day ! I have used Pro Tools 002, and got rid
of it, just didn't like the way I got around in it....also had Cubase for
a while, admittedly a long time ago, but I just like Paris, agreed it needs
to be brought into the 21st centry, but that's why the rant! I guess I'm
just a simple guy...don't need too many bells and whistles, just a well-laid
out and intuitive system.
Thanks Steve for racing to my defense, but I did deserve a response like
that...... and sorry I missed your Wed gig...hope to see youse guys at the
next one.
Naughty Ceddy

Hey, Esteban....so nice of you to come to my defense...I take back everything
I said about you ..( except for the REALLY nasty bits ! ) Actually, I
deserved the response...like I said, I was crabby and just venting. And
having used digi 002 and found nothing much to get excited about, as well
as Cubase many years back, I still have a great affinity with Paris, it feels
like you're working with something, instead of just pushing data around.
And...yes ! No latency right out of the box, no dicking around with setting
after setting! A good friend of mine who runs Digi 002 on a G4 was at the
studio while I was doing a live recording on which he was playing bass, and
he was blown away by the ease with which Paris delivered up multi in-out,
playing and editing multiple effects on the fly on a crappy old computer
running 98SE , still, I was being rude, and got my just desserts...cheesecakewalk
??
Sorry to miss yer Wed gig...hope to see ya at one of the next ones
Cheers!........Ceddy, the Dark Side !

I would disable everything conceivable until you get solid and then add things
back like usb and ethernet until you see the IRQ issue come back. It is
very frustrating and does take some time to get all sorted. hang in there
