I'll bet you thought I had a success story didn't ya?
I started with good EDS cards, cables etc.. No Lucid,
all internal clock. No Default Project.
I can get one card to boot paris ok except
the clock light never stopped flashing and the
master section is not available in the patchbay.
Pretty useless. I tried multiple cables, mecs and no Magma
with the same results. I added a second card and
Paris wouldn't boot at all. It said no card attached to the
master Card. I swapped them with no success.
I then tried C drive #2. Same results across the board.
I am thinking either the PCI bus is totally frigged (Magma and comp)=20
or Paris installs are totally gone on both drives. It's possible
Windows is toast too as I think about it. On two drives?
I had three of these cards working fine together in another comp =
yesterday
with a 442.
What do you suggest?
T.
PS I have an original project coming in that has major label interest.
I won't even be able to boot Paris for their consultation early next =
week.
This is ridiculous.

Can you try a fresh install of everything on a brand-new drive?
OS, Paris, etc? Small-ish hard drives that are perfect for
system drives are cheap nowadays. That would eliminate any
software or drive sector corruption. If that doesn't do it,
then you know it's more than likely a hardware issue, possibly
along the lines of your Magma/PCI buss, or even chipset/mobo-
related.

No, this is the time to switch to Cubase or ???.
Seriously, though - if you think there's a chance with these
guys, then drop a grand on whatever it takes (HW, Software,
whatever) to get your shit together. IOW, don't let some faulty
technology stop you from being involved in something that could
go somewhere - invest in your future. Don't dick around.

I would back up any thing I needed, then I would try to reinstall Paris.
Reseat your cards and cables too.

Neil,
I've already got a kickin dually Cubase rig. No A to Ds to speak of =
though.
I really want my cake and eat it too. Paris with Cubase is sweet. =
Hefty Creamware
audio card for Cubase.
Your idea of a clean C drive is good. I may as well grab the box from =
upstairs
since it's an AMD 3000+ and go with that instead. Same bang as the P4 =
3.0.
Maybe better. Paris is already installed there in a very clean way. . .
Thanks for your help. I need it.

Aaron,
Do you mean the installer is corrupt? These are installs
from years ago that worked fine until I added a 4rth Mec.
I blamed it on the Mec/Paris but now think it's computer hardware.
Ram, chipset, mobo ? Two C drives have been a part of this test.
The computer upstairs that I used to check all the cables
and cards with has a new install of Paris 3.0 and worked without
a flaw. I might just bring that bad boy downstairs and get the Magma
UAD inside of it and go. Seems like the quickest fix aside from =
reloading
all the plugins and other music software.

John,
This session is just a walkthrough with a previously more than
satisfied client. I would like to play some multitracks to show=20
the gui along with the sound to his client.
I am not quick enough with Cubase to use it as an audio recorder yet.
I use it strictly for Midi and softsynths. I could get there easily =
enough
if I wanted/needed to. I feel much closer to that point all of the =
sudden.

Que??? :)
Actually, I was operating on the assumption that he - like
just about everyone else on this NG - already HAS another DAW
option, whether it's Logic, PTLE, SX/Nuendo, either on the same
PC, or a separate rig; that's why I said "Cubase, or???". Turns
out he does.

Well, that is what I'm asking. You're looking for variables yes :)?
You should try the other known 'good' system w/o a doubt.=20

Aaron,
Do you mean the installer is corrupt? These are installs
from years ago that worked fine until I added a 4rth Mec.
I blamed it on the Mec/Paris but now think it's computer hardware.
Ram, chipset, mobo ? Two C drives have been a part of this test.
The computer upstairs that I used to check all the cables
and cards with has a new install of Paris 3.0 and worked without
a flaw. I might just bring that bad boy downstairs and get the Magma
UAD inside of it and go. Seems like the quickest fix aside from =
reloading
all the plugins and other music software.

I've got a fresh Windows and soon a fresh paris install.
This will rule out computer hardware if it works. If not

Error code 1-1 each time with new install.
It must be computer hardware. I tried two mecs too.
Jiggled and wiggled with the card and cable.
New comp coming into play here.

Hi Tom,
I had this problem not too long ago when upgrading. I had to turn off bus
mastering on my ancient G400, and then everything was fine. I'd try removing
your video card drivers and drop back to standard VGA to see if your vid
card drivers are causing your trouble, too.
Hope this helps,
Mike
PS - using SP2 with no problems - as long as video bus mastering is disabled.

Already in that mode with the graphics Mike. These are clean Windows XP =
installs
with pretty much no tweaks. I'll double check bus mastering though.
Thanks,
Tom

I have dropped a load of Paris gear off at a tech's house.
I pray for results.

Already in that mode with the graphics Mike. These are clean Windows =
XP installs
with pretty much no tweaks. I'll double check bus mastering though.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,
I had this problem not too long ago when upgrading. I had to turn =
off bus
mastering on my ancient G400, and then everything was fine. I'd try =
removing
your video card drivers and drop back to standard VGA to see if your =
vid
card drivers are causing your trouble, too.
Hope this helps,
Mike
PS - using SP2 with no problems - as long as video bus mastering is =
disabled.

Sandy,
I'm using a Magma so the irqs haven't been a problem with 5 cards.
I was stable for years until adding a Mec with WC. Even a cloned
C drive didn't work after the extra mec was introduced then removed.
How many EDS cards, mecs, expansion cards are in your mecs?
I have 5 in each of two mecs + .
Anything helps at this point.
Thanks,
Tom

I am NOT running WinXP - let me clarify right away. I tried, early on, =
but never had the interest in losing sleep, hair, patience, etc. I ran =
WinXP with Paris using 4 cards in one PC @ 2.53 for about a week. It =
never felt reliable.
Having said that, I'm using WinME with 2 fully loaded MECS on 4 cards (2 =
each input, output and ADAT). =20
Like I said, in my experience in configuring systems for other users, =
Paris doesn't like to be run on a fast computer using WinXP, so if =
you've modified your base system (CPU and FSB especially), I would think =
that would cause some trouble.
Otherwise, most of the troubleshooting has been bang-on, I think. =20
Can you get a one card, one interface system with no C16 to work? If =
so, can you add a second EDS card w/o a second interface. Etc.

Also, I was re-reading your earlier posts.
The Master section of the MEC is essentially a 442 shoved into a =
different chassis, and has been known to crap out without killing the =
"card / slot" section of the MEC.
That is to say, you can quite easily have a "MEC Modules block" =
available in the patchbay but no MEC Master section because of some =
weird electrical issue that craps out the master section (which is your =
clock, SPDIF, and I/O 1-4). =20
Does this Card A work with a different interface (442, different MEC, =
IF2 etc)?

Sandy,
I'm using a Magma so the irqs haven't been a problem with 5 cards.
I was stable for years until adding a Mec with WC. Even a cloned
C drive didn't work after the extra mec was introduced then removed.
How many EDS cards, mecs, expansion cards are in your mecs?
I have 5 in each of two mecs + .
Anything helps at this point.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Sandy,
Actually I was having this same symptom with two Mecs and a 442
with two computers. I'm thinking it's the Scherzo drivers and iffy
contacts on the cards.
