Not sure still if any tried the VST version but the latest version is in
RTAS as he got permission. This plug was really pushed by the Pro Tools
LE users so it went from a VST used in a VST-RTAS wrapper to a RSAT only
plug-in. He just emailed me back and said if there was interest he would
try to continue with a VST version as well. You can go to his site to check
it out...there are also many posts on Gearslutz and the UAD forums as well.
Just didn't know if this was something that got overlooked by us as I had
not seen it yet or maybe someone tried it already as a VST and it didn't
work in PARIS. He said he was going to start a thread in his forum to see
what response he gets so could everyone go there and give there support if
you think this is worth wile. It seemed to satisfy all the LE users with
no PDC.

Cool, I just posted about this the other day here on another thread.

Thanks for contacting them, I had seen references to the VST version,
but there wasn't any info on their site.

Do they have the older vst version available still for sale?

Cheers,

TC

Here is my email to him and his response....
Hi

I could re-release a VST version it depends on demand, yours is the only

request for VST
i've had since the RTAS release, i'll start a thread in our forum -
doesnt PARIS have PDC?

Here is the thread he just started on his site....please go there and give
your support!!!

http://www.mellowmuse.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=130

I've had a request for continuing the VST version, i just wanted to check
if there's
any real demand still for it, for use in other DAWs (PARIS was mentioned).
If theres not much interest it wouldnt make sense supporting the format,
same goes for a Audio Unit version.

I went and posted. Everybody still using Paris here needs to take a
minute and post on that thread to show your interest. This could be a
huge deal for Paris advancement if Gary is willing to do continued
development on this plugin.

TC,

I'm not sure if you know this but Dimitrios pushed to get
Faderworks to do the same thing months ago. I have that
working successfully already in my rig. The only thing it
doesn't do is ping to calculate the plugin's latency automatically.
http://www.vertexdsp.com/products_faderworks.html
I have a list of plugin latencies that works for me here.

It was on the designer's things to do I think? It works just like
one would hope. The only issue I have is I hesitate to use
plugins until all the tracking has been completed. Otherwise
when doing a few overdubs I have to bypass all plugins first.

Hey Tom - do you do this "out of an abundance of caution", or are you
getting fairly reliable crashes with plugs enabled?

Or is it just the "dog's breakfast" of compensated/uncompensated
latencies during tracking you're trying to avoid?

Hi Tom,

Thanks, I did see that before and have looked briefly at Faderworks, but
have not tried it yet (still getting my rig organized here). I would
certainly support that effort as well as it also looks like a major
breakthrough.

Mellowmuse is likely poised to be the ADC solution for Pro Tools LE,
(until Digi implements it when they see that there's no longer any point
not to), which means a large user base and updates etc.

At the very least, I think this is an important (additional) path to
pursue with Gary of MM, especially with the pinging method. If it works
as advertised with a high degree of accuracy, it would essentially give
us full ADC in Paris with no effort, save for instantiating the plugin
on every track. My limited understanding is that Faderworks is also
fairly effortless, so it essentially then would come down to preference
and workflow.

So to sum it up, I'll be buying faderworks, and hopefully Mellowmuse
will have a VST version which I'll also be supporting. It's great to
have options when working in Paris, and both of these things are really
going to help move Paris forward.

Cheers,

TC

Hi Kerry,

Crashes aren't happening. Actually Paris is very stable
these days. Makes me wonder why I'm switching comps.

The latency that UADs and others introduce is so far off that the
track that is newly recorded is off by the latency composite
of multiple plugins across all tracks in the mix.

Not easy to deal with on the fly unless it's just a phrase or two.
I tend to start mixing when the feeling hits me. This just means
if a vocal or solo still needs to be tracked I bypass all of the
track inserts across four submixes before the session starts.
Only takes a minute.

I should set up a macro for that huh? I'll give it a try. If it
works I'll post my macro for MacroExpress on the group.
It is derived from Brian's back in the day. 64 mouse moves
is going to be a task...

I could be wrong but to me it looks like they're pinging out of each channel
with a burst tone, and reading the latency of each track/tone into the
master. There's the part that'll snag us. No VST on our master or global bus
routes with which to read that tone.
That'd bust it functionally.

Aaron,

Do we care about the master (global?) bus? Latency isn't really an issue
there
is it? I'm a little confused. What do you mean by your statement?

well, I watched a bit of the video on the 'how to' thing. It looks like a
control is bursting a tone out of each channel, probably a different
progressing tone would be my guess so it can separate when each frequency
reaches the master, then it know when it sent on each channel and how late
it was coming back. Thus, the PDC knows what to do. Problem is, the busses
in Paris have no VST insert with which to read this latency data.

Would Wires have any bearing on this?

Pity we can't build an "EDS wrapper" - an EDS plugin that wraps a
pipeline into the VST architecture.
