Help! Mac OS 10.4 news reader needed! [message #64009] |
Tue, 31 January 2006 07:46 |
|
I crashed our upstairs computer's hard drive and lost EVERYTHING! Including
my old OS 9 version of Netscape, which was how I accessed this group. We
use Microsoft Office's Entourage for email, but I can't for the life of me
figure out how to get this newsgroup into it. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

While we're talking to the Mac guru.. dude, how the heck do you back up your
emails and archive in Entourage?

Wow Aaron. Mac guru? It's more like Mac goof goo. To be honest, I haven't
taken the time figure out a good way. I'm sure I've stumbled across the
email folders somewhere in the finder before, but never thought much about
backing them up. I have three Macs connected to the internet right now, and
I do from time to time import the email folders from one machine to another.
Entourage has an import feature somewhere, but I can't remember the exact
menu. I also cut and paste really important emails into Word and save a copy
there. I guess I don't get enough really important emails that I've been
real worried about it. It'll probably bite me someday (finding wood to knock
as I speak). I bet one of the real Mac / Entourage gurus out there in cyber
space knows. ;>)

HI Phil!
What's up? Haven't heard from you in ages. Which issue? I've gotten
Entourage configured to read the newsgroup. The hard drive, however, is
what it is... All the old data are history. I have a firewire drive for
backup now, so hopefully it'll never happen again!

I'm using something called Carbon Copy Cloner. I think it just makes a disk
image on another drive, but I'm not sure. As to how to restore anything
after a crash... Your guess is as good as mine! I'm hoping I'll never need
to find out.

The only viable backup I could locate was to drag and drop the folders off
to a desktop, and burn to CD...... seems kinda limited to me in restoring
and settings though.
