Guys & Gals,
Hey has anyone use this plugin from Waves (Transform Bundle). Well at our
comemrical studio, we have the Gold Bundle and this plugin has been around
for a while no one has used it not tmy knowleged. So, I was mixing this Hip/Hop
Gospel track with , of courese some very "agressive" drums form Stylus RMX.
This mix was coming along fine, but was lacking the punch thatit needed.
I don't know what came over me, but, I somehow I pulled in this plugin on
the master buss...BOOM!! The drums were "smack" dead in our faces..Sounds
like I had "inserted the SSL-G Master buss compressor(Aka quad comp)..Really!!
Shocked ,I put ithe Trans-X plug in bypass..Drums went back to their lack
luster place. So, I inserted the Trans-X on the Kick and Snare..I had an
LA-2 on both prior..nice, vut nothing to write home about for this type of
music....Again...BOOM!! This kick was solid, Jumpd right in front, and was
fuller & rounder. Again, like we I put this thru an SLL comp.. Same with
the Snare & Claps..
So, I started inserting the other Tranform plugs into various tracks. Simply,
these plugs are "AWSOME!!.. Waves are making some of the best plugins I've
heard and used in awhile.. AND, Iuse pretty much everything form (TDM,RTAS,
VST) MsDsp, URS, UAD,Digi, Focusrite....Blah blah.. Istarted tolove waves
again..

Cool...TransX is for any sound engineer or musician who wishes to shape transients
on their tracks.
The NEW Waves TransX processor brings innovative ways to rhythmically control
your signals that preserve and restore the "life" of the tracks. Unlike traditional
compressors which let you control by ratio, attack, release, frequency,
etc. TransX focuses on two aspects of the signal, the transients and sustain-decay
and then let you control each.
Features:
Control Room Sound - Increase or decrease the amount of "room sound"
Control Microphone Distance - control the perception of mic placement
Control "pick and stick" - on drums and guitars
Soften the Edge - re-design the attack where softer sounds are desired
Add Punch - add or soften edge where needed to any instrument
Multiple tools - for speed and efficiency: Wide band for quick solutions,
a 4 band for a total control of reshaping
Subtle or Extreme - a new sonic universe.
"In a word - fantastic! It brought life back to a very over-compressed mix
I'm mastering at the moment."
Dirk Buro - Mixing and Mastering engineer, db-Tonstudio, Germany - Can, Boy
George, Gloria Gaynor…

How about telling us:
which presets you used
in what context
and if they can be compared to anything else out there.
THANKS !!!!!

Hi John,
On the Kick & Snare/Claps, I used the Trans-x wide insterted, with the presets
for each instrument. Then , I adjusted the gain coltrol.. That's it. Very
un-scientific..very much "EAR-ific. :)
That's it..

Judging by the description in Johns post the TransX plugs kinda
sound like the same idea behind the Thransient Designer.Or am I
off base here?

Sounds like an SPL TD in software. I've got one of the 4 channel hardware
units here. You can knock a hole through the wall with a kick or snare using
this. It's sorta like having a loaded 12ga shotgun on an insert.

That's the result I got.. I'm told that Waves got their Idea from the highly
reguarded SonyOxford Plugin ("TransMod").
I just got my demo pack from Sony to run the Oxfords plugs in PT. I hear
from those whom I respect that the Sony Oxford plugs are great!!

I have both the SPL TD4 (hardware), the Trans X and a similar Voxengo thing.
While the software can be cool, it is absolutely no match for the SPL unit.
The simplicity and the way it preserves the tone of the original while altering
the attack is un-beatable, so far I might add. The release knob can do wonders
on mic bleeds or if you want to prolong room sound.

I agree that it's a great unit. I haven't compared it to anything else but
it sure can do some amazing sonic stuff.

Well,
If the SPL4 sounds better than the plugs, WOW!! Because, the Plugs sound
fabulous. Even better, I loaded up the Sony Trans-Mod plug, and yes, it a
step better than the Waves version.
All in all, I'm satified with the plugs. Thanks
