I'm thinking about replacing tubes in various mic pres That I have. Looking
to try different flavors of tubes. Looking for warm yet clean to pleasantly
distorted when driven. However, I don't want to break the bank. I'm wondering
if any of you guys would have any suggestions.

Thanks
James

Don't worry, everyone, it's just a diversion to make you think
he's actually posting something along the lines of an audio
topic... then when you least expect it, he'll turn it into a
Mac-Pimping political thread.

:)

Both these guys seem honest and knowledgable. I think they tend to deal
w/ tube guitar amp types mostly, but they can probably help you...

Dear James Telefunken is the best to go !
Mostly there are 12AX7 or 12AT7 or 12AU7 used on mic preamps.
Although real telefunken are very expensive the sound is the best as it can
get with tubes.
Regards,
Dimitrios

I have a pair of RCA 6072's I purchased from them (KCA) that seem to work
well.
It's a crappy pre so tough to say how much they helped, they did bring down
the gain which is what I wanted. I alos purchased a GE five star 6072 from
them for a microphone I no longer have. It does not seem to do justice in
my 2247 though almost too warm and dark. I may sell it cheap or keep it to
try in another mic someday. ANyway, KCA were good, they are more of a guitar
amp place though
