JohnOh don't say that DJ! I'm holding two brand new Seagate 250's in my hands
right now. They just arrived to replaced two DOA WD 250's I sent back to
Newegg last week! I've got four rock solid WD's I've had for about three
years! What's up with hard drive manufacturers these days! The QC sucks!!!!!

rt_000_0017_01C60D57.0EB69380--This is the approach I often take. Or at times, if there's just a couple
of noticeable sections, I'll just do a volume change on the track itself.
Simply cut the track boost up the low bit to match better with the rest.
Often you'll find the performer only uses a couple of different intensities
through the performance, so cutting at the change point(s) and adding or
subtracting a few db can do the job.

Cheers,
Kim.

They are told that all you need to do is set an optimum level, and then fix
it in the mix.....Wrong...........
You must always try and get the most amount of signal to tape, (disk),
allowing for dynamics and song type of course.
Riding record levels was one of the first things we were ever taught, (I
can't remember being taught it, but I know I was), because if you under
recorded with tape, all you got was noise when you had to ride the levels
eventually in the mix, especially vocals.
That's not to say we didn't limit or compress, but we still rode those
levels.
Rant off...thanks for reading.

what are your computer specs?

As I recall, the last time you bailed out on XP you were attempting

There is a channel input fader that equates to the level being put down on
disk...one for each track.

I get error in rendering track to disk. error code 1879248898/70031002
when i try to render 3 plugs on two identical tracks.
Paris really is a piece of crap for me. I thrilled you all have
success. I have wasted years of my life on this piece of crap.

collection tonight.Just wondering which formats are used most and
which bit rates.Seems like AAC might be the way to go.I could
also see doing a mixture of AAC and Wavs or Apple Lossless.
One thing that confused me;it says Apple Lossless gives you the
same quality as AIFF and Wav,but is half the size. Can it really
be the same quality in half the size?

Anyway, this looks to be a really fun toy and putting mixes on
it versus the whole cd burning thing will be quite cool.

Happy Holidays,
PeteWell that was quick. 2.2 doesn't even have render. grrrrrrr what crap

No mic pres to speak of as I use my alesis Studio 32 pres for any recording
I need, mainly V/O.
I don't do much music any more, mainly Doco's and Corporates/Commercials.
In 1984 I quit studios altogether and started doing location audio for TV /
Films / Docos etc.
The first 10 years were almost totally spent doing Beyond 2000 / Beyond
Tomorrow as part of a 3 man (person), crew travelling around the world.
I reformed my Studio back in 1999 with Paris, and used that successfully
syncing to video, (SP/Digi Betacam), until I needed to be able to sync to
AVI's and Mpegs....Paris couldn't do it so I got Nuendo and found it did all
that stuff that I required way better than Paris, although I really liked
the sound of Paris and the fact that it was a CPU independent system.
I'm just starting to venture into Surround...what a minefield, but fun.

Just felt the need to point out that some of us old-timers still record vocals
with a fader in the loop.
Working without this option would be too high of a price to pay for converting
to DAW-Based recording.
I use a custom setup. I have modified one channel of my MCI console using
a Telefunken V672D dual preamp module. The modification is basically one
half of the V672D before the fader (100mm P&G) and one half after. Other
than incorporating the mute, the rest of that console strip is no longer
active.
This gives me a sweet sounding transformer coupled, Class A, active fader
with about 12db of gain at unity. It normally sits between my mic pre and
compressor.

It is true that with 24bit audio you can record without a compressor and
then use automation to level the tracks, but as I have stated here previously,
I am a big believer in having the singer work with the sound of the compressor
and the old method still gives the best results for me.
I picked up the V372D for a couple of hundred dollars and spent a day doing
the install. This setup is worth a million dollars worth of plugins.

I think SawStudio is the only major DAW currently being sold that does not
have VST PDC.In case it wasn't mentioned, there is also Media 100. It's used a lot at
TV stations, for news broadcast and for the production of TV commercials.
The Media 100 systems are expensive, kind of like Avid systems.

If you just want to do some video editing on the cheap, to start learning,
or to do projects get one of these products.

http://store.purplus.net/videoediting.html

For PC:

#1 Ulead Video studio $14.95 it easy to use and the results are reasonably
good.

#2 Pinnacle Studio $16.95

On a Mac you could start with iMovie, but I would search for an older version
of FCP. You can always up grade it later.

If you live in a major market and you want to make a living as a video editor,
you need to learn Avid, Media 100, or FCP. In that order.

Here in SoCal, it's a good time to stay off the freeways.

And, psst, no one in NYC actually goes to Times Square; it's all
tourists from Jersey!

To each and every one of you, may your new year be filled with
happiness, better music, and even better recordings!

DCdont be a flamer.. we still got like 7 hours

ie: chorus on an acoustic 12 string guitar panned to the opposite side

I've also tried sending all the drums to two Aux (via the Aux send) then
returning the two Aux to two strips (a cheezy drum buss) via wires.

It's to bad Paris's architecture doesn't allow jumping between
submixes....now that could be fun.

My question is can I load this with sounds (from a music store) and then
walk away or do the ROM cards need to be in the unit for it to play sounds
