I’ve been playing around with Nebula3 today. This is very promising software.
Could even be important. A free version is available.

High CPU, pain to download and install, convoluted web site, but I love this
plug.
Anyone else?

I bought Nebula 3.
Once you get used to it it rocks. Some very cool sounds and it should only
get better.
For those of you hearing about it for the first time, it is something roughly
akin to dynamic convolution.

And, Geno's right - it IS a CPU-killer.

IME, you'd have to run it on a separate PC & lightpipe across
from one 'puter to the other if you wanted to get more than one
or two instances of it going.

Which is REALLY the kind of thing I'm trying to avoid... that
whole convoluted two-or-more-PC-thang.

The developers are working on CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) and
GPUFFTW (think UAD-1 card on steroids). These technologies could solve the
load issues at a reasonable price point.

Currently, my Intel Quad running under Boot Camp can handle a dozen or so
instances on a 40 track mix. If CUDA fizzles, this could be the incentive
I need to move to the eight-core or the next-gen Mac, which is rumored to
be almost double the CPU power of the eight-core.

Nebula is capable of some “big smile” sounds. Each time I play with it I
am more impressed, and I’ve been playing with an early version of Nebula2-free
for several months.

This could be the best software investment I’ve ever made. and I can't wait
for the sampling software - W-Deconvolver.

I've tried to install the free version, but I haven't been able to get
it running. I'll try it again when they figure out how to do a proper
installer...

I'm looking forward to the new URS Channel Strip Pro and possibly the 3
Waves emulation bundles. I actually bought an iLok so I can demo them.
