Picked up a new Gigabyte mobo with an Athlon 64 3000+ (combo
deal, came packaged together in the same box, so compatibility
issues can't be the case here), and I can't get the BIOS to save
CPU overclocking settings. Anyone know this kinda stuff really
well that might be able to help me out?
I've tried both entering it manually at boot-up, and also the
EZTune windows utility that comes with the board, but neither
one has worked. Settings don't get saved & it still runs at 2.1
GHZ instead of the 3 GHZ equivalent that should be able to get
out of this CPU.
I used the same DDR RAM sticks that I had in my old mobo...
this couldn't be the problem, could it? I know this board can
take PC 3200, but the RAM I currently have in there is a bit
older - maybe 2700 (not sure - would have to verify that).
The RAM shouldn't place any limits on whether or not I can
overclock this puppy, should it?

on Win XP Home, two sticks of 512k DDR DIMM's. XP is up-to-date
except for I have not installed Service Pack 2 (actually, tried
to install it yesterday when I first noticed it came out, but
had to boot into "safe" mode & revert back to the state prior
to the install, since Windows wouldn't boot up normally after
installing it).

Neil,
If I remember correct, Athlon 64 3000+ is working at 2.1 GHZ. 3000+ is just
a way to show it have the same speed or better, as an Intel 3.0 GHZ.

Right, but you should be able to overclock it to get even higher
speed out of it (I've been able to do this with all my other
AMD CPU's), but I can't seem to accomplish that with this one.

Look if there's bios updates or other updates for the motherboard. Havn't
any experience with Uli chipsets but can overclock my A8V Deluxe/VIA K8T800
Pro with 3.8 Athlon dual Processor up to 4.2. Maybe you can get some more
ideas here to find out more: http://www.sysopt.com/
