I generally stick to recording my tunes in my studio. Freakin' navel gazer.
Anyhoo, some kids here in town have pretty hip metal band going and they
asked me to do some recording for them. My space is teenie, so they got a
local theater -on the second floor of an old local town hall. Loads of
1920's soul. I unhooked my Paris rig and computer, hooked it back up again
at the theater, ran eight lines in, and presto -what a great sound. Man,
even the rough mixes, just tossing the faders around, and I got some great
tones. Two things were especially cool for me. First, even with my high
tower computer Paris is really very portable. Second, this was my first
time tracking a band, I usually just track midi stuff, so working with warm
bodies playing real-time was quite nifty.

We're going to tracks some vocals tomorrow, so there's still more fun to
come... and then we're on to mixin' hehe.

Cheers,
MR

Sounds like things went great! I work in a small space too that great for
two/three but and when I get a lager band usally move to another space dwon
the hall... - just not tripping over all the cables makes it worth the while
:) Are you using a head phone feed/mix to each of them or is this all "live"...

Hey Rich,
We ended up tracking the drums, two guitars and bass live. We overdubbed
the vox and a guitar solo and some additional guitar parts at the studio. I
ran the extra guitars to Paris through a Beringer Vamp Pro. We've been
A/B'ing the mix against an bunch of tunes by Audio Slave. I'm pretty amazed
that for a hack job, our mix is holding it's own.

By the way, it was kind of cool, the guitar player plays through a Marshall
and selected ("blind") the Marshall emulation on the Beringer unit.
Cheers,
MR

Hey if you get a chance post a song - or send one to me via email... if you
don't mind listing your input chain and any mixing settings that would be
cool to hear your work!
