Hey, me too . . . I need a good electrified acoustic for live Sarahtonin
things. I'd like a Taylor 614CE, but I don't know if I can justify the
expense.

My problem is that I already have a couple of acoustic guitars that I love.
I'm trying to figure out how to make them sound like themselves on a gig...
I have a Martin M38 w/ a K&K Sound mic + under-the-bridgeplate pu system.
The K&K system sounds great in the studio but getting it to sound like that
onstage is a whole 'nother can of worms! 'Tonehouse' (AKA Zan McLeod) has
the acoustic thing DOWN and he always plays and sounds great...

For live amplified acoustic guitar gigs I currently use a Variax 700
Acoustic (the one that looks like an acoustic guitar).

It plays great, looks great and sounds great through the PA (more
organic and studio sounding than my Ovation acoustic/electric). The
Variax is thin, small-bodied and relatively light, but it can sound huge.

It has several decent different acoustic guitar tones with variable "mic
placement," other tones (12 string, banjo, sitar, whatnot), has 24
frets, does instant open tunings and transpositions using the onboard
DSP, works as a passable bass even, and it beats subjecting a good
acoustic guitar to gig abuse.

The only acoustic guitar thing it doesn't do is pick up guitar-top hand
percussion slaps.

Worth checking out.

Cheers,
-Jamie

Hey Gantt,

Have you checked out Schertler? The Unico amp sounds incredible. I played
my Taylor 312ce through one and never heard a bigger acosutic sound in my
entire life. My girlfriend and I just looked at each other and smiled.

Here's the link:

http://www.schertler.com/inglese/loudspeakers.htm

Good luck!

Mark

Which went out with the '60's anyway.

Unless you're Tommy Emmanuel, who plays better drums on the top and sides
of his guitar than most drummers play on an entire kit.

I second the RIP MH. Legend.

As for guitar amplification, etc, try the I-Beam Active + a soundhole pickup
/ secondary system, and blend to taste. Works great for me. Also, try AER
amps. I've got an AER Compact 60 - fantastic! Very clean, very light, very
loud. A lot of pro players are using them (e.g. Preston Reed, John Etheridge,
etc).

Cheers,
Dan

He played drums for quite a while, didn't he? It certainly shows in his groove
when he plays guitar. End of June we're going to the Tommyfest in Newport
News, Virginia - 4 nights of concerts and weekend workshops.
