Hello Everyone,
I am working on recording some demos using paris.
To test my system, I bounced (mixed down) a song to disk in 24 bit, then opened it in wavelab 3.0. When I played it back in wavelab the lead vocal sounded like it was in a box. I reversed the phase on one channel and that seemed to help but the vocals still seemed less bright but without the "boxiness". I did double check the mix in paris and it didn't have the boxy sound.

1)Does this sound like a phase issue and if so could it get switched during mix down?

2)With digital mixing, Aside from the phase issue, does the mix typically lose some clarity/presence (which I noticed on the vocal)when a mix is bounced to disk? If so I would learn to compensate in the mix. Does one typically need to learn to compensate in the mix for the effects that mixing down tends to have on the sound? I would think that the less eq needed in mastering the better?

Thanks for any thoughts.

I have never experienced this.

I can only think that there is a plug or something in Wavelab that is running in the background or perhaps there's something in Paris that is actually present, but you don't hear it because of where you're plugged in for monitoring...

Thanks for the reply Ted.
I am monitoring out of the mec monitor outs directly to powered monitors. I can hear paris effects through them. I'll check for any other plugs or effects that may be on but wouldn't I hear them if I hear Paris effects?
Thanks again.

Just an update. For some reason, some "environmental effects" or reverb for system sounds got switched on in my sound card settings. I have no idea how because I didn't change them. Anyway that explains my singer's voice falling into a hole! Switching them off took care of the issue.
