Provider was doing some upgrades due to a recent change of ownership that
turned out not to be as transparent as they'd hoped.
As Han Solo would say... "It's not my fault!" ;o)

Hehe I wouldn't do that. I have no plans to ever stop hosting. Internet connections
will only get cheaper and quicker, and boxes capable of running the software
will do the same. I've no reason to stop hosting it, unless people simply
no longer post here.
On the off chance that this changes I will give plenty of notice so that
a migration path can be found. I aquired the license from Chuck to run this
puppy (I funded an upgrade and a license for the backup server myself however)
and as far as I'm concerned the software belongs to the group, not to me,
as does the UPS which you all kindly bought. :o)
The worst thing that could happen is that the server I use could go bye bye,
in which case we'd have to go to the backup box, which may mean missing a
week's posts (depending how long since I booted the backup machine for an
update - it's not on 24/7).
But unless my house burns down taking both boxes with it, you're not going
to wake up one morning and find no more group here.
So relax. ;o) If it goes down, it will be back. If it's going to be down
for more than 24 hours I'll advise Doug Wellington to put updates on status
on parisfaqs.
We have a good thing here and it's going nowhere. :o) This is one of the
reasons I stepped up to the plate so quickly when Chuck decided to stop hosting.
I felt it couldn't be let go. I had that feeling you talk about above. I
was like "Is this it?". I thought about it for about half an hour and thought
"I can host it myself surely. I have a server sitting there..."
But I remember that fear at that time that this may be the end. I know what
you're saying. If it's in my power though it won't be happening.

....and this is a post from the backup server. It functions just like the
real one. Indeed if there's anybody who's in Melbourne who's interested in
co-hosting we can hook this box up at their place and have two servers online
24/7 with different URL's which are linked to each other... if one goes
down we can divert to the other.
Right now if the main server blew up we'd lose nothing and be back online
within a few minutes.

You know I think you are right :-) It might have been December of 97 when
a few of us started trading emails.
Elizabeth is in second grade, Gavan in kindergarten and sam is getting ready
for "Tune In To Toddlers".
