Since we've got a run on YouTube vids- here's Tommy Emmanuel
playing a tune I normally wouldn't be interested in. (I hope this
link works). tommy is a brilliant player and performer. He's
also a really nice guy, and along with the acoustic-pyro can be subtle too...

Indeed. I saw him in Toronto at a dinner club called Hugh's Room
a year ago May (?). It was one of my top 2 or 3 concert experiences.
2 hours of fabulous playing. Some of it jaw dropping, some of it
breathtakingly beautiful. From Beatles to Elvis to Outback Aboriginal.

Put it this way, the next night I went to a Taylor guitar clinic with a very
well known player demoing some product in a concert setting. One of the
pieces he played was Tommy's Daytripper Medley arrangement. By
comparison, it was awful.

For a taste of something not quite so over the top-
on YouTube look for "Those Who Wait" - one of Tommy's most
preferred compositions.

Yes. For something completely different check out "Initiation" and
"Heartbeak Hotel".

AND, for the sake of name dropping, that night at Hugh's Room
was sponsored by the Toronto Fingerstyle Guitar Assoc, and the place
was full of prominent Toronto guitarists. Sitting at the next table was
Alex Lifeson. He along with everyone else gave Tommy a standing O
and brought him back 3 times...

Ha-

Kim wasn't there, but I've been a huge fan since I saw Max open up for
Rush in 75 @ Massey Hall. What a great innovator. Max's early stuff
was too FM for AM (!@#?) and it went over the heads of a lot of folks, (plus
he
got pretty crass in the early days), but I'll never forget seeing "Gravity",
"Lily"
and "Here Among The Cats" on a hot summer night at the Kee to Bala in
Ontario's cottage country in '76. I also promoted a few shows with them in
the
late 70s as well as Triumph, Stampeders, David Wilcox, April Wine and a
few other notable Canadian acts...

me too! me too!

I saw him about a month ago. Dynomite. He had an Aussie girl duo open for
him, and came out and backed them up on a couple of tunes, before his solo
set -- it was interesting seeing him function as a backup guitarist.

Then he just blew us all away. Did a good hour and a half set. Then came
back and did another half hour encore. Amazing.

Hey Steve-

Was cleaning out my trunk last month (a biannual event) and I found
amongst a bunch of long lost CDs, yours. I really enjoyed that disc,
and the fact that you took the time to hand letter it for me and send it.

Hope you're doing well.

Ted

Geez, I'm really posting a lot the last few days...

That's amazing. Watch the one of him teaching a guy how to play it...
great sense of humour, still a damn fine picker.

You mustn't forget that he started out as a "backup guitarist"
I engineered hundreds of sessions with him in the late 70's to mid 80's and
he would play around with all those licks then.
He's also a magnificent bass player, and an outstanding drummer.
I'm extremely proud and excited that the world has come to appreciate him as
we all did in Australia in the 80's.
