Anyone know a way to setup a car stereo so both front seat passengers get
a stereo sweet spot with studio like sound ?
I currently have a pathfinder suv.

Also, is there a car stereo with an eq where you draw the curve on a touch
screen or with lots of eq presets ?

Thanks

I might be looking at this from a simplistic angle, but... isn't a car the
worse possible environment for listening to music? It's a noisy space, and
is grossly asymmetrical (the listener is, by definition, closer to either
the left or right channel). I would have ventured a guess that the best you
can do is (a) compress the sound in order to cope with the road/wind noise,
and (b) find a semi-decent stereo that gives you just enough tweakability to
achive acceptable results. Anything beyond that is wasted, is it not?

Having said that, I'd be curious about others' opinions on car audio...

Here's how I'll be addressing the stereo issue in my truck.

Well, I spend a lot of time in my car and want it to just give me a balanced
even stereo image and some nice eq capability that I can easily change from
album to album.

Yeah, cars are tough but I want something better than the crap I have. That
headliner is too high for my taste. I'll probably put something on the dash
and just aim it. I really don't care at all how it looks, I just want it
to give me a great stereo image sweet spot.

you forgot all the reflective glass involved at different angles too.
You can make 'em loud and somewhat flat, but sweet spot is pushing it pretty
hard, really.

The worse the environment, the more some DSP muscle makes a difference.

Here's an interesting one;

Hi John,

The only thing I do is make the left speaker one notch louder because as I
sit in the driver's seat I hear the right speaker more. It helps balance
the space for me . . . the driver.

Yeah, i've done that for years. Now I'm ready to have highs and mids aiming
directly at my ears instead of at my ankles. Turns out my ankles can't hear
shit !

My times are a changing.

i don't think it's legal to drive with headphones, though that's really a
fantastic idea Martin. I could get killer sound (if i don't get killed)
with perfect stereo image. hmmmm

It's illegal in California at least.

You could always get a power inverter and run one of these between preamp
and power amp:

Don't laugh, I've considered it...

Many years ago I rip'd out the manufactures stereo system and put a new
stereo, a pwr amp and a pair of dual cone speakers in my Toyota P/U. The
pwr amp made all the difference in the depth, fullness and power feeling.
Although not a studio, at least it filled the cab with full range pwr and
depth. It was just a single pwr amp, not the kind of pwr amps that need an
extra car battery and a trunk full of woofers. Simple yet round and deep.
$300 bucks back in 1977.

Isn't there something with "bluetooths" out there, as used with
