Hi, hope ya'all had a happy Turkey day. Lamont and DJ thanks for the
responses to my earlier post regarding a an IBM x325 server. It has a
Socket-604 Xeon Dual Motherboard, with a Xeon 3.06 processor. I'm only going
to use one CPU in the setup as I know dual processors have been a problem
with Paris. Is anyone out there using Xeon processors successfully with
Paris and if so how do they perform? Any issues here?

Thanks,
Rich

Mnnn, the more I look into this processor, the more this thing looks
obsolete. Am I wasting my time? I know I'm wasting yours :-)

HI Rich,
Extremely Hot, Extremely noisy.
You might want to just pull out the second processor if you want to run
with Paris. Also you will need to disable Hyper threading in the BIOS.
These Xeon models will be about as fast as a AMD X4800 or an Intel Core
2 Duo 6400.
Do you know what motherboard brand is used on this IBM board? That can
matter allot if it's going to work.
Personally I would sell to somebody running a Linux mail server or
something. :)

Chris, not sure what the motherboard brand is. I haven't taken that careful
a look at it yet. The thing is a beast with 6 fans, 2 power supplies and it
weighs a ton. The dimensions of the case make it difficult to customize with
SATA hot swap drive trays. It was designed specifically for RAID, using IBM
SCSI hot swap Ultra320 drives or U160 drives, hard to find and kind of
obsolete. I think I'm going to get rid of the thing. You know anyone who
wants to run a Linux mail server? :-)

Thanks,
Rich

Hi Chris,

I've been running paris on a dual core machine for months without a single
hickup by setting the intaffinity flag in the boot.ini and using an application
cpu affinity utility. I can repost instructions if anyone is interested.
There is no need to disable hyperthreading or remove a cpu to run PARIS
anymore.

All the best,

Mike

It's huge to me! I have a P4 3.0 that has been waiting for this fix.

HI Mike,
Yep know about the boot.ini setting but it basically negates a reason to
even have a dual core at all.
Most all of Paris issues with multi- cpu setups comes from the hard ware
driver level.
Have you tried the method of setting affinity for individual hardware
devices? Some of the newer Intel core2 duo based motherboards actually
let you switch the cpu to to a single core mode in the bios with out
having to mess with the boot.ini end of things.
As long as you install widows with the dual core enabled you can then
switch back and forth with out any adverse effects.
