I need help selecting a firewire card to plug into a PCI slot.
I need one with a Texas Instruments chipset.
I see that there is a and b versions of firewire.
Which should I get?
How do I determine what is compatible with my MB?
I think the 1394b is up to 800mb per second is that correct?

The MOTU 8Pre only has a FW400 connection, so whatever card you get it
should have a dedicated FW400 port. Do NOT get an 800 card and try to
use an adapter cable.

Hi Brandon,
These 2 work well.

One thing to avoid is the Firewire A(400)/B(800) combo cards they have
the most compatibility issues.

Finding one with a TI chipset will be difficult... the suppliers don't
often tell you whos chipset they are using. I would ask MOTU tech
support for a recommended brand.

Yeah looking on newegg they dont tell you what chipset.
I did a search for it specifically and found one that has 3 ports up to 400.
So it is not a 400/800.
aLSO IT IS A ti CHIPSET.
$41 WITH SHIPPING.
