I just can't seem to get the SPDIF interface to work.
I am trying to send digital RCA SPDIF OUT from an EMU 0404 to the RCA SPDIF
IN on the MEC. I have tried every configuration...:
1. 0404 - External (I/O coaxial - spdif)& PARIS - Internal
2. 0404 - External (I/O coaxial - spdif)& PARIS - Digital
3. 0404 - Internal (I/O coaxial - spdif)& PARIS - Digital
4. 0404 - Internal (I/O coaxial - spdif)& PARIS - Internal

I have the MON select box checked for the PCI SPDIF card in PatchMix software
for the 0404.

I have a new Monster Cable RCA SPDIF cable running from the
0404 OUT to the MEC SPDIF IN.

Now if I am wanting to use PARIS as the master do I have to have two SPDIF
cables running?

But shouldn't I be able to get a LOCK using the 0404 as the master with one
SPDIF cable?

NOTE: I just want to use PARIS to monitor thru in this setup.
BOTH Cubase and PARIS are on the same computer.

ANY help would be appreciated.

THANKS!!

I would create a Paris project, route the Paris spdif I/O to a pair of Paris
channel inserts in the Paris virtual patchbay and hook up the EMU spdif
input and output to the Paris spdif input and output. Then go to the inserts
on the Paris channels and set them to externsl. You should now be able to
hear whatever is playing through the EMU interface. on the pair of Paris
channles.

Ah so you have to have the EDS FX set to EXTERNAL on the two channels you
route to in the patch bay???
I was not doing this.
Does this have to do with all digital signals (optical and coaxial?

Thanks

In this config, the 0404 would be clock master and Paris would be
clock slave.

Yes, you would have to have a SPDIF line from Paris to the 0404 and
set the 0404 to clock to SPDIF

Lock? There is no sync capability with SPDIF.

This will work... I tried mixing directly into WaveLab on the Paris
computer through another card just to see if it would work and it did.
You will have to use two cables and set Paris as master, and the 0404
as a SPDIF slave device. Generally, the monitoring end wants to be a
slave, so you will have to be carefull to avoid the "dog chasing its
tail" problem.

Guys,
I just can't get it.
I went and bought a second SPDIF cable today and tried everyconfig I could
think of.
I tried setting up sends in the Patchmix software and everything.
I don't think it should be this difficult to get a digial signal to work.
Something must be wrong here.
I am going to call EMU tech support tomorrow and see if they can walk me
thru it. I really hope there is something wrong with the card cause the alternative
would mean I am not as techniacal as I thought I was....might be time for
a slice of humble pie.
