Just got off the phone with Magma. They don't even have a 64bit 13 slot
chassis available yet. The 7 slot model is over $2k so the 13 slotter will
probably have a pretty steep MSRP.

They will. it's just not a need right now. Where's the 64bit OS that will
need 7 slots or even 13 slots???

Dammit LaMont!!! Why should it matter whether there is a 64 bit OS or not?
Things are running much too smoothly here and I need something to fret
about. ;o)

Actually, the thing that sorta' triggered this was my seeing 64 bit PCI host
cards as upgrades to existing Magma's and for a fleeting moment, I thought I
might be able to upgrade my existing 13 slot chassis that uses a round SCSI
cable to a 64 bit system by just getting a new host card........but
noooooo!!!!!!

I"ve had a 64 bit version of Win XP for at least a year sitting on my desk,
possibly longer. Vista is 64 bit. You can bet MacOS will have it soon if
they don't already (honestly, just haven't kept an eye on that as it is not
even close to affecting me in any way).
The problem I see is this: USB and FIREWIRE will end up dominating this,
simply because as I'm sure you've all noted, PCI slots are going
away/shrinking in number per motherboard. This is an even older issue with
Macs. It's coming guys, and IMO I don't think there is much we can do about
it.

Ummmm... I have a 64bit notebook... but the XP is 32 bit. M$ does have a
64bit version, BUT you must purchase it separately (there is no OEM that I
know if). However, the 64bit has been very very buggy and unstable. In
fact, if you have a 64bit PC, you can goto M$ and download their version
free. I am sure it is a demo... but anyway, from what I been reading, the
64bit isn't really ready for mainstream computers, and plus very few
manufacturers are supporting it...

It's not the manu's that keep me from using it, it's the apps... or should I
say, lack of full on 64 bit app support.
