I posted a while back about a mysterious and constant CPU
load of about 60%. I have tried everything, and yet it
is still there.
One of you suggested changing out my video card. I currently
have an NVIDIA RIVA TNT2. Any suggestions?
I just want it to play nice with Paris, and solve my CPU load
problem. I may have some video soundtrack work in the future,
so that is a consideration, but not crucial.
Thanks so much!
Chris

www.txmicro.com is a good place to watch, I've recently found. They carry
older cards, IE ones that are more of the Paris era motherboards. I just
ordered my second video card from them in 2 weeks trying to up my video RAM,
once I get time to stuff 'em in there, I'll post.
Riva is usually a pretty friendly chip though, so I'm not sure why you'd
have troubles with it. What chipset on the mobo you have?
On the other hand, I think I gave like $33 total for this latest vidcard
order.. it's a cheap 'try it dude' fix.
(4F-4214)64MB nVidia GeForce3 Ti 200 8x AGP 1 27.00
when I'm done, I am looking at 4x the video RAM that I have now. Total cost
is some time and about $60-$70. That doesn't suck.

Chris,
Try any video card you can lay your hands on just
to see if the CPU load changes. What you describe sounds
like driver or hardware problems. Are you using the best
drivers (not necessarily most current) for the video card?
I had to return a nVidia card because it didn't play nice
with Paris. I would never recommend them for Paris users
although some have had great success with them.=20
=20
Any other audio cards in the computer? That can be
a problem with EDS cards too. If the video card swap doesn't help=20
your problem I'd look at Windows tweaks. Maybe start with the=20
graphics stuff.
Make sure no IRQs are sharing (you probably have done this)
and disable all unused USB/printer ports, onboard sound
anything peripheral that's unneeded. No clock on desktop,
no automatic updates blah, blah, blah. =20
Good luck!
Tom
