Can anyone educate me on the EDS ADAT card?

I'm want to sync Paris with a Digi 002 rack in order to transfer from Digi
design into paris.

1st.
The ADAT connection should provide for synchronization of the machines right?
(clock signal)

2nd.
In the Paris mannual it says to use digital clock source when recording or
playing back non 44.1 and non 48khz sample rates. What does that mean?
There are no other sample rates.

Also, some one said in a thread (so what if it's only 20 bit)
Was he talking about the ADAT card? Does the card transfer 24 bit files
At 44.1 or 48k?

hi Michael. I'll give it a try.
1st
YES!.clock signal is inherent .unless you have a wordclock generator ,slave
Paris to the 002
2nd
clock rates are variable. what they are saying is in order for the source
samples to line up properly ,the clock of the source and destination must
align.this prevents errors on the read cycle so each word gets read at the
right time thereby ensuring the correct word value.
jitter and worse are the result of bad clock mojo.
what they are saying is to use an external wordlock generator for all
machines in the chain, so they are all running in sync
3rd
the spdif and analog connectors on the mec are 20 bit.I'm
almost positive all daughter cards for the mec are 24 bit .I had multiple
adat cards in one of my mecs, one of which was dedicated to a TC
finalizer,which was passing 24 bits.

In the project window AFTER you have plugged the adat pipes in, set the sync
for ADAT. Note, this does not have anything to do with the transport (FF,
Rew, Play, Stop) and only syncs up the digital words.

Do what I have above, and it will be sync'd. however, don't save your PPJ
with sync as ADAT unless you are 100% positive you will always have the
ProTools sync at the adat In before starting the project.

The 8 In and 8 Out MEC cards are 24 bit. The Adat card is 20 bit. The S/PDIF
on the MEC is 24 bit, but S/PDIF on a 442 is 20 bit. IF-2's are 20 bit. the
MEC analog I/O's are also 20 bit. ALL inputs are capable of 24 bit file
recording, however any that are 20 bit interfaces will only record 20 of the
24 bit file write.
Make sense?

Michael........is there any way to convert the 002 files to wav files? even
if you recorded in the 002 at less than 24 bit(allowing transfers via the
Paris adat card), if you are transferring over 8 tracks without the 9 pin
adat machine control, you cant start and stop the transfers at the same
location on the timeline, making it difficult to align subsequent passes.

Are you talking about timeline sync so that both machines run locked up to a
common sync source? If so, you're not going to be able to do it unless the
Digi 002 has a sync input. The Paris ADAT module only outputs ADAT sync so
it will have to be he master clock, inputting to an ADAT sync port on the
002. If the 002 doesn't have an ADAT sync input port, forget it.

exactly what I was thinking deej.
unless it is 8 tracks or less at 16 bit, forget it otherwise.
do the convert file shuffle thing.or maybe a test tone at the same point on
every track and align them in Paris with sample slide.what else is there?

Stripwav. PT (and pretty much any other newer PC DAW at this point) will
write a Broadcast WAV.. Paris doesn't know what to do with that newer header
info.
And I agree with given the current info, a network cable(s)/switch will be a
lot faster and easier IMO to deal with. Just render each track out to a
folder, stripwav, then stuff 'em in Paris and play back. Alternatively, one
could burn a CD/DVD of that info and stripwav it off the CD/DVD into a Paris
folder.
