ad lengthy discussions
with a number of my contemporaries, some black, some hispanic, some white
about how things have been and the way things are evolving in this country.
I don't have time to post this right now but if you're interested in
continuing this discussion, I would be too. It's a discussion that needs to
be engaged and you have made some good points. If we do this, I would like
to try to keep it as objective as possible. Perhaps move it to the general
group. There is much to discuss and learn.

42 ins/outs to work but mec2 ins outs
don't work.
I clock mec1 from ADIPRO8, mec2 from mec1 and 442 from external wordclock
that slaves to adipro8.
I don't want to have 442 in A card because then I cannot have 24bit spdif
output for monitoring...
Any help - suggestion ?

442 to card A. The 442 is initialized from the EDS card which is paged when
the computer boots. The MECs have on/off switches and are not recognized by
the computer/EDS cards until the Paris application is actually launched.
The boot sequence that worked for me was as follows:
442 on card A, MECs on Cards B & C
Turn on WC module
Boot computer (you will see the 442 lights blink)
Launch Paris
I was having some trouble getting the MEC on Card B to work but this was
solved by toggling the sync source from WC to internal and then back to WC
in my default project.
It didn't really work reliably, ever so I just bought another MEC and this
did work reliabl\y.
Good luck

ut from some four or more card system useres ...
I have a three card system and I remember that things became a lot more
instable when I went from a 2 card to a 3card system ... is the switch
painful?
Also, should I get a PCI expansion bridge, or are all of you running a hefty
450watt Powersupply and plug it into the Mobo?
Thanks,
Ted5 card system running here at the moment.
If you are only adding EDS cards and not interfaces, the addition
would be fairly painless... BUT...
I would recommend a Magma chassis for several reasons:
1) Too much heat inside the computer with this many cards.
2) You would need at *LEAST* a 500W supply to drive 4 cards and a few
drives etc.
3) Configuring IRQ's is WAY more forgiving in a Magma chassis.
4) You now have room to add MORE EDS cards!! ;-)

And my all time favorite:
King Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering
samite held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by
divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am
your king.
Dennis: [interrupting] Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin'
swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power
derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic
ceremony.

>Don,
You missed my point. I'm not going to go into this in depth
as I have better things to do,but you have to understand that there are many
facters that shape peoples lives, its never
as simple as both side want to make you beleive. My point was that Powell
and Rice seem to take the rights simplistic
view, and most blacks just feel that Bush and those who take his views have
very little idea of black life in america.
They understand the concerns of the rich. I can see how they can see the
poor as not getting it and in some was they are
right. Like I said there are many factors that shape peoples life. Blacks
feel that Powell and Rice don't do enough to
show Bush the concerns of poor. Instead they act like
they grew up with them.
You makes some very good points, but life in america is
not as simple as we would like it to be. Sorry I don't have the energy to
go on. I wish we could come to the middle and
have a little empathy for each others concerns.

I think we have, and do.
If I didn't have that empathy I would live in a little white world,
instead of pouring my heart out on this vital subject.
People care more than you may know.
Take care of yourself.

Well thanks for clearing THAT all up...I felt I wanted and needed to post this now.Let me preface this
by saying I'm not taking into account Iraq or whatever else you
want to throw here;this is based on what I'm seeing in response
to the tradgedy.
I felt a positive post might be good in all the heated
discussions going on now.Not to say these discussions aren't
needed and can't be productive.I just got a few good vibes
tonight and needed them after feeling so helpless, discouraged,
disappointed etc. for the last 8 days.
I think we all can agree there was a breakdown in the response
to Katrina.Blame this breakdown where you must;federal, state,
local government or the fact this tragedy was too large and
widespread to be handled successfully by anyone at anytime.I know
what I feel, but that is beside the point.
Out of all the things that have gone wrong(and there are many);I
think we can say the one thing that has gone right is the
response of the American people.I'm in St. Louis and we're
expecting 8,000 to 10,000 hurricane victims in the next few days.
An airplane hanger at Lambert is set up for people with a
medical facility, pharmacy, clothes store with thousands of pairs
of shoes etc.A prison that has been closed for years was
renovated in a week for victims to live in temporarily.I was just
thinking of how it was located right in the middle of the worst
hit area in St. Louis in the '93 flood. When I called the
volunteer line they said they were getting 800 calls an hour.
There are volunteers from all over the country in the gulf
coast now;rescuing people,providing medical services,providing
food,shelter,rescuing pets.I've seen churches sustaining
communities where FEMA and other organizations have yet to show
up.These churches being sustained by donations from everywhere;
some regular folks just showing up with truckloads from
states far away. All kinds of cross-country church network
donations;money,supplies,human resources,shelter,counseling.
The multiple cities trying to take in the vast number of
victims;find them housing,food,other family members.Free hotel
rooms to stay in;people just being there with signs when they arrive-welcome
friends and neighbors.Schools and colleges
taking in students on the spot no questions asked. Those schools
often adopting those families to care for.Strangers opening
their homes to other strangers;often making for tight living
conditions.Companies offering work to the thousands upon
thousands of victims left jobless. And of course all the monetary
donations.
Don't get me wrong,I know there are problems and I don't see it
all through rose colored glasses. And it is a shame that something
like this has to bring us together.Hopefully from this tragedy
we can fix what is broken.Hopefully we can face, discuss and try
to heal some large problems that face this country.Right now
though I'm am going to enjoy the momentary lift in my spirit that
I'm getting from "we the people".Bless us all and hope this can
be the beginning of a different era for our country and ALL our
people.
peace,
PeteSorry for not posting in the general section Kim,but I thought
more might see it here.
Now back to you're regularly scheduled PARIS channel.

------=_NextPart_000_00AB_01C5B3D8.D09C28D0--I come in the studio tonight, turn on my rig, my second C-16 doesn't show up
in Paris, I look, no heartbeat on the mute button, I swapped cables with my

That's funny because I heard everyone in LA uses
artist's tape. They say the high end is more transparent
and there's even a little more headroom.

But it can't be fresh gaffer tape -- it needs to be vintage tape.
Nothing in the world sounds like vintage '77 black gaffer tape.
Especially tape made in Keokuk, Iowa. In June.

>Beware of new CD's that automatically install copywrite protection software
onto your computer i.e...enhanced CD's. Some of these newer Cd's install
Media-Max software which loads all sorts of drivers and crap onto your
computer. I experienced this after buying Babyface "grown and sexy". The
main culprit for my stuttering Fireface was a driver named sbcphid.sys. I
found this out by finding the following link.
http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~jhalderm/cd3/
This driver is designed to prevent unauthorized copying of audio CDs using
personal computers. MediaMax interferes with audio copying by installing a
device driver the first time software from the CD is executed. It's
supposed to make the ripped tracks stutter thus leaving them unusable. On
my system it also made my Fireface driver crazy. I couldn't even play my
older cd's which I bought without skips and stutters. To make a long story
short I had to get a link from the SunnComm Technologies that uninstalled
the software and then (They didn't tell me this) delete the sbcphid.sys
driver from my device manager which the uninstall left behind. This file is
hidden so you have to select the view hidden devices option in the device
manager window. MediaMax and similar copy-prevention systems are
irreparably flawed and believe record companies should find more
customer-friendly alternatives for reducing infringement. I hope this helps
anyone else having problems similar to mine.<
Just a heads up guys.I've been mixing a project here that was recorded for a new client. He just
means it to be a demo and so in the interest of getting this done quickly,
we didn't isolate the singer. He's got a very dull and honky midrange that
is bleeding all over the tracks (*all* of them). Normally, on something like
this I would do a little cutting at 400Hz to carve out the cardboard, then
a tiny boost at 3kHz for a little clarity while softening up the 5kHz range
with a little 2.5 octave cut bringing it up to a tiny peak at 7kHz tjust to
get some definition. If I solo the track, this works fine and it smooth out
the voice....on the solo track.
Problem is, it;'s all over the dobro, mandolin and doublebass and guitar.
Carving his voice out of all these instruments basically kills the mix.
There are also phasing issues because the instrument mics are, in every
case, at least 10 ft. and in the case of the dobro, 20' away from the
singer. It's not really a problem with instruments being that far separated
from each other, but with a singer, it's killin me.
WTF was I thinking letting them do this? I should have shot the producer,
stolen his money and paid myself for another day of time for overdubs.
I was hoping to do a better mix with some extreme cuts and marginal boosts
to certain instruments but this (especially boosting the dobro freqs so that
they cut through the mix) really aggravates the worst frequencies in the
vocal bleed.
I'll get an acceptable mix out of this using very slight cuts and panning,
but it's never going to sparkle and I'm not going to *wow* anyone with it.
That's a shame. the instruments are really well played and I'd just love to
create a *radio ready* situation for them ;o)
Well......it was their decision to do it this way in the interest of time. I
just hate that sometimes when all of a sudden I get into a demo session and
the players just absolutely *KILL* they are so good. This is one of those
situations.
I'm sure I'll be able to polish it up with a bit of EQ and gentle
compression on the mix bus but the phasing of the vocal is still going to be
there to a small degree.
;oPHave you tried to que the vocal up against, one track at a time, let's say..
dobro tr

my RME HDSP 9652. There's no problem with the locking up at all. I don't
know if this would work with the Pulsar, but I do know it works with RME
hardware. The problem I discovered with using ADAT cards with Paris XP is
that it's almost impossible to get more than one ADAT module working *per
MEC* plus, the Paris XP driver won't *see* an ADAT machine (maybe not a big
deal unless sync'ed transfers are needed to/from ADAT tape)
