Hi Morgan,
He should be aware that he'll be stuck on Powered Plugins v.3.9, which, for
me has had some issues. I've been getting weird noises (clicking, ticking
and occasional hooting foghorns), which UA's tech support hasn't been able
to help with ("sorry, but we no longer support either Mac OS 9 OR Paris"...)
and no new plugins. The Neve EQs and comps only work on OS 10.
Still, the UAD-1 plugins that are available sound great. Dealing w/ the
latency is a PITA, but mostly I'm used to it.
Frankly, it's the inability to run newer plugins that'll probably drive me
away from Paris eventually. Meanwhile, I slog on... I just found out that
a PT system (YIKES! THE DARK SIDE!) that could replace my Paris system would
cost (new) about $30K - $35K.
Whew.

Thanks Gantt,
I'll forward this info - thanks so much :)
Are you using the same tweaks in the config
file that we use for PC?
Thanks :)

Hi Morgan,
I'm not sure which tweaks you mean... Are you taking about Paris tweaks
or UAD-1 tweaks?

Hi Gantt,
My apology - the UAD tweaks , I think in the
config file , changes to Disc I/O settings etc...
Here my notes from when Brian worked on getting
this going - a long time ago :)
I have never worked this out on a MAC :)
OK, now that that's out of the way. Here's what I did to get 128K Disk
I/O and stable use of the UAD-1. I set the Disk I/O to 128K and added
this line to the Paris.cfg file:
EDStransfer=8,8
That's it. This alters the relationship and size of the buffers in the
EDS cards. All I know for sure is that when the buffer size exceeds 8K,
the UAD-1 will not work in more than one instance. This value is changed
automatically by Paris when you change I/O size, so this command line
switch overrides Paris' default settings. Bottom line...it works great
for me.
Caveats: Not tested on the Mac. Only tested on my rig, Tbird at 1900MHz
and DDR Ram. Would only recommend 128K I/O with this. HAve no idea what
it might break on another config or another system.
Again, try this at your own risk. Works great for me, but might not for
anyone else.
Regards,
Brian T

Does anyone know how to edit the Paris.cfg file on a Mac?
Thanks!

HAH! I booted in OS X, opened Paris.cfg in TextEdit, added the line, saved
it and rebooted in OS 9. Unfortunately the UAD-1 plugs were not perfectly
behaved. Better behaved maybe. I'll keep you guys (Mac guys, that is! 'Cause
who else cares?) posted...
