PARIS Works But Locks Up After Closing [message #107138] Sat, 14 July 2012 08:29 Go to next message

Does anyone have trouble with Paris locking up after a session? Once I close Paris, I can work in other programs, but I can't reopen paris because the computer tells me it's already open. Once I shut down my computer, my computer locks up and I have to hard shut down the computer. The light on the MEC stays on also - it's a solid yellow light just like when paris is in use. Thanks everyone!

Hi Ray,

Yikes... the BSOD. I've had this problem only a few times in the many years (14+) of Paris land. I don't remember what I did that caused it or fixed it.

This may not help but it might and surely can't hurt. Edited crossfades can play havoc in Paris. One thing I do regularly now is is:

1. Select all tracks in the editor. Click in the field and cntrl A. (all tracks now red colored)
2. Open the crossfade tool bar (the x in the tools)
3. Check the crossfade in and out of every edit at once (far left and right) (I use linear / and \). Even if the clips are stand alone or not touching, everything gets a symmetrical linear cross fade.

This works very well, especially if you have hundreds of crossfades and I do not have any lock ups for this reason.

However, if Paris locks up on every project I'm thinking it's something else such as the config, the hardware, any plugins or the XP core subsystem install. Maybe try a reinstall of the subsystem or remove all plugins. Possibly a bad connection with the EDS cable, bent pin?

Check this. After Paris launches and opens the default project go directly to the patch bay and see if all installed hardware are recognized.

In the project window: Are the settings correct. Have you disabled the C16pro feature, disabled DirectX. I also add to the last line of the config: MidiPlayDisable=1

Hope some of this helps.

That sounds very much like the "crash on exit" bug that plagued early versions of the XP driver, except I'm pretty sure revised drivers had killed that forever, and Mike's for certain. What drivers are you using?

Hello Kerry!

Sorry I've been away from the forum and thus not able to respond to your response to my question. I lost my mother right after my original post below, so now that life is getting back to normal, I'm trying to resolve my Paris problems. I'm not using any specific drivers other than those that came with XP and PARIS. You just made me realize something though - I don't receive the updates for XP. Maybe I'm having older XP problems because I don't receive the updates. I bought my version of XP from someone on Ebay, but it only worked for about 2 months. I started getting Windows messages that the version is not authentic. Maybe I need to update XP and that will resolve my problems?

Hello Kerry,

I think your response may be the source of my problem. I can't use PARIS at all now because I keep getting messages from Windows that it needs to close. I would just like to confirm if XP is the problem. Any ideas?

Ray

Very sorry to hear about your loss, Ray, my condolences. Your Crash On Exit could be a PARIS XP driver issue. Which ones are you using?
