HI,
Here are the benchmark results that we've done over the past week.
So far the ASUS A8V is the only single cpu board with functioning BIOs
support for the X2. Hopefully Gigabyte will get us a working one very
soon seen they over all make a much nicer motherboard.

Feel free to post your results. This will help to get and even better
result. For most everyone the bigger Sonar and Nuendo tests are more
than likely not going to work on single AMD and Intel machine at any
buffer setting. Possibly the fastest AMD and Intel singles might.

We used the RME Multiface and the M-Audio FW410 in the test. They are
very popular audio devices which is why we chose them. The larger Nuendo

was created on the Multiface so any one with it with have the
easiest time opening the project.

We haven't tested the project on a G5 so feel free to see if it works.

Just an FYI, the reason I use the ASUS A7V8X mobo on both my rigs ( Paris
and Cubase SX) is because it's very stable and it's chipset and architecture
supports using the old Matrox G450 AGP and PCI graphics cards. It appears
that the ASUS PCI architecture is pretty consistent across the boards in
that the AGP is hard wired to both PCI #2 and #6-bad news for these slots as
far as using audio/DSP cards. However, PCI #4 doesn't share with any other
device in the system - good news for Magma owners. There may well be much
better dual head video cards out there these days, but for using a quad
monitor display, the G450's are very stable with the VIA chipset and since
they share the same driver, ar

e pretty bulletproof in my system if the PCI
card is used in PCI slot #2.

I'm looking at this ASUS board and thinking that for around $1500.00 (the
cost of the Athlon 64 X2 4600,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E168191035 41 plus 2 x 1 G
sticks of DDR PC3200RAM, or even less for 4 x sticks of 512 ),
I could migrate my existing hardware to a new system that would be pretty
familiar to configure, but much more powerful than my existing XP 3000 CPU
running 2 G PC2700 DDR. I could probably even use my existing RAM if I
backed the system bus down to 333mHz in the bios and still have a much more
powerful rig.

Would the newer ASUS A8V mobo support the older Matrox G450 dual head-any
voltage (or other) issues that you are aware of?

I'm sorta hitting the wall here when tracking VSTi's at low latencies or
when using more than a couple of hoggish (read Gigapiano in Halion) VSTi's
when streaming 48 tracks to Paris at mixdown, but there's always the freeze
function in SX or just tracking them straight across as audio tracks in
Paris as an alternative to spending money......I guess..

;o)

>Hi Eduardo,

Mot sure what your budget is? If you've got bucks to spare you can't go wrong
with the Neumanns.

I had quite acceptable results the other day mic'ing a kit with a pair of
MXL 603s microphones. I know they are cheap at $200 for the pair, but these
things sound great on acoustic guitar as well.

A good way to go on the 'cheap.

Good luck!

Dude.

C'mon. You give that company money and you are patently begging for
posterior abuse. Everybody knows that.

I love you, I value you, I respect you, but c'mon....

>Hi Deej,

I was wondering if you could tell me what exact set up you
have for your video cards. Which model do you use for your PCI card?
Also, have you experimented with or know anything about the Matrox MMS
G450 QUAD card (which supports 4 monitors). Thanks so much for any
information. I really appreciate it.

Best regards,
