Hi PARISians. I want to get started on some things I've been holding off on until the forums were up. Here's one of the top items on the agenda:

I need your help in convincing the Reaper developers to include PPJ and PAF support in Reaper. If Reaper could open and save PARIS projects, a top-notch, inexpensive, and rapidly developing DAW would open up to us. With new ASIO drivers coming, we would be able to use Reaper with our existing PARIS hardware.

Some of the work to make this a reality may have already been done. In April 2007, work began on .paf import, but it was never finished, partly because the Reaper developers felt that the PARIS community had lost interest.

I think it's high time to to correct that impression of lack of interest, and to let the Reaper developers know exactly how valuable this would be to the PARIS community. The timing's as good as it'll ever be; there's been more activity in PARIS development in the last year than there has been in a while, which I'd want to see if I was a developer asking myself "do I want to put the effort into this?". The forum launch has given us a fresh coat of paint, and a greater ability to pursue these communication efforts in an organized fashion, V3.0 of Reaper is in development right now, and Mike's work on ASIO promises the ability to run other DAWs on our PARIS hardware. We'll have choices, and this is a great time for Cockos to demonstrate to the PARIS community what a great choice Reaper would be.

I ask each of you that sees value in this to click on this link, go to the Reaper forum and let them know that we are here - and that we are very interested.

Thanks for your time!

- Kerry

Hi Don - thanks for doing it!

Yeah, I sent Justin two PMs and I telephoned Cockos without success. I realized the better approach was probably to let the PARIS community speak, and ask for features the way everyone else in the REAPER community does.

I put my post in. I would encourage all current and former Paris users to
consider doing the same, maybe we'll even get some of you guys back??? I
know Deej has mentioned paris again in a few posts. Paris and Reaper could
be the best of both worlds on one system and on the same hardware.

My Tascam DM4800 with Reaper totally rocks. I can write automation
with the control surface, then when it plays back, the faders dance
the night away!

Gantt - if you are willing to take a trip up I-95, I would be happy to
give you a tour of my studio. Pictures are now posted at:

Reaper has an SDK - a developer's toolkit. This means that part of the application is wide open to developers, and we can write our own control surface plugin for Reaper (people have got Reaper remote controlled from a Nintendo DS already Very Happy). Mike Audet and I talked about this a long while back.

Before that gets anyone too excited, though, Mike's just one guy and we need to start thinking about keeping non-directly-PARIS-related tasks off his shoulders so he can concentrate on making the rig itself run "like buttah".

We could use someone who knows something about the basics of coding, not necessarily a wizard, and who'd be willing to pitch in and give Reaper/PARIS plugin writing a try (me, I wouldn't know the first thing about it).

Anyone who has some coding savvy and wants to take a look at what you can do under the hood of Reaper can take a peek at the Reaper SDK here:
