Anyone played with Waves S1 Imager and Roger Nichols Stereo Analyzer? You
can use S1 to reverse channels and put all left or all right in both channels
and with Stereo Analyzer you can see how much correlation there is between
the left and right channels.

It's amazing how much stereo imagery you can get with stuff that's 98% correlated
(example: moonlight feels right). The mix is pretty mono with rhodes left
and vibes keyboard right. DOubled vocal in mono! Kewl stuff. Here's another
one for your comments. Load the song up and tell me what you hear.

Canned Heat Going up the country

flute copied with delay in left to thicken
eq left: roll off all lows eq right: roll off all highs

doubled guitars with delay in left to make 2 distinct guitars
very lo fi guitar rhythm left very lo fi guitar left octave lower
eq left: roll off all lows eq right: roll off all highs

bass / drums center with narrow image just off center

vocal dead mono ! heavy compression?

John,
Try Hotel California. I think there are between 11 and 13 different
guitar parts/sounds on that by the end but no clutter. =20

Well, I pulled out Hotel Calif. and here's the breakdown.

Bar 1

12 string and acoustic playing single notes, organ WAY background swirly
sound

Bar 9
Electric picking left Acoustic Strum center
Acoustic picking Left
On a dark desert highway Electric right doing muted "chuckas"

The you get to:
There she stood in the doorway Electric double with upper harmony in right,
lower left

The at:
Welcome to the Hotel California Electric double plus Electric accent riff

The meat of the song is at the long solo and is just:
Acoustic Strumming
Doubled Electric in harmony with upper part in right channel
Mono Lead Guitar Center turns into duet part
With tiny electric noodling that is of no merit way in the background.

So if I count the doubles 2 guitars we got 6 guitars at the meaties part.
Nice but not 11 to 13. hehe Jam on !

When I saw them do it live in 1993 it was just Walsh on electric, Felder on
double neck 6/12 string electric and Frey on a Takamine Electric/acoustic 12
string with a a sideman playing a B3, Schmidt on bass, Henley on drums. It
sounded HUGE because the sound guys had delays , etc. going all over the
guitars. One of the best live concerts I've ever seen in my entire life.

Anyone know who engineered and produced this one? What kind of
tape machines would they have had in 1975? It sounds great.
