Well, it seems that Waves is not laying around taking it on the chin from
UAD.

Have you tried the demo yet? I am not doing iLOK, so I'm kinda stuck on the
'demo' part of that deal
The API Collection requires iLok authorization in order to activate a 7-day
demonstration period.
bummer.

I used to own Waves. Then when win XP came out, they tried to ding me for
$300.00 to upgrade my software. I don't use Waves any more and will NEVER
get involved with their ridiculous WUP.

Yeah, but they're blue! ;)

Looks like they capped WUP at $200. I'm not that fond of them as a
company, but they do seem to be making some nice plugins these days.
Hmm. To iLok or not to iLok, that is the question! I may take the
plunge because I want to try the Abbey Road & URS stuff. The upcoming
URS channel strip may be the best though, with all of it's input stage
modeling. It's a good time to be mixing in the box.

The 550s are OK but my favorite is the 560. That thing is wicked fun on
guitars.

I bought a 16 channel API console back in the "90s and parted it out,
keeping a bunch of stuff for my studio. I love the pres and the 560, but
I was not wowed by the comps I got (they were smaller than the 2500 and
mono) or the 550a. I actually preferred the EQ on my TAC Matchless console.

I too don't do Waves ever since the ME to XP scam.

We did a lot of our recordings in Austin to a TAC Matchless>Otari MTR90 at
15ips with Dolby SR. Sounded better than digital ever has to my ears.

I had a sweet old MCI 24. Man she sounded good. I miss the old girl,
blub, blub. Fuck it man I'm going back to analog! Yeehaw!!

Actually the only part I really miss is the analog EQ. But if you have
the horsepower to use a bunch of them, the PLP mastering EQ sounds
pretty awesome.
