The SSD you're gonna love, if you don't go cheap on it. There is still a lot not known about how they 'really' perform, but my imation has been great (though it was over $400 for 120GB) so far in my tablet PC. Side benefit, battery life went WAY up on it, so it very obviously pulls less juice.
Be cautious of that much RAM because XP is a 32 bit OS... you'll probably at best be caching 3.5 GB of that 4 GB RAM and I've seen results that actually degrade the performance of the machine trying to deal with the 1/2 GB it can't deal with. For now, I would peel back the RAM to 3 GB or less to be sure.
i7 is the better processor. i5 is the cheap seats/celeron kinda CPU. Don't see how you can make a wrong turn on that decision. The Raptor is a great drive with great throughput.
IIRC, PCI spec 2.2 and newer are the ones that changed the voltage. The 'keying' slot will be backwards in the pics of the mobo. Some guys, also IIRC, have gotten around this by using a magma or SBS expansion with a univerally keyed PCI card in the host computer.

Keep the VirtuaVia in mind too for an expansion chassis at a much lower price point. Several users including TC got them to put their EDS cards in, and so far no complaints reported.

Hi Kris, just curious if you have moved ahead with your DAW build yet. I am in the same boat as you, I need a new, modern box for my 3 card rig. I also like the mobo you suggested "Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R" as it has 4 PCI slots which I need for my 3 EDS and 1 UAD. I don't see any major diff between this one and the "GA-P55-UD3L " that I am looking at, a few more USB ports, the built in audio, that's about it I think.
From what Aaron was saying regarding the PCI 2.2 spec, I found this info and it would seem both these mobos have the rite keying for EDS cards and should work, maybe someone with a bit more computer savy could confirm this.
Also I was looking at the i5 for my build but Aaron suggested going to the i7 and since it is only 100 bucks more than the i5 at newegg.ca, I think I may go this route as well.
Have you priced any of the stuff here in Canada yet?
Anyhow, I'd like to chitchat some more about this since we are basically building the same box for the same purpose.
Thanks
Rob
