ended up earlier with both new graphic card, a powersupply, a DVD recorder
and a motherboard that was broken. Get delivered new, good ones when sending

>Hey Deej,
To help you avoid a batch of problems:
1) From the word on the street, do NOT use Norton on your Mac. If you've
been using Norton that could explain some of your problems.
If you ever have HD problems, Disk Warrior has a good reputation.
2) You don't have to defrag OSX.
3) What's problem are you having copying files from a CDR? Insert CD,
drag files, done.
No sense knocking yourself out on the Mac, you'll need to keep your head
clear for the new adventurebox system you're building. :^)

correct revision for dual core, so I must say, if you buyed both dual core
processor and board from the same place as a package, they should know
better than sell you an old revision board that is good over a half year
old, that was made to use with a single core processor. My A8V package was
marked well to show it's ready for Athlon X2 processors and I know the first
bios to work with X2 was version 1013 from 3th June 05. Hope you will figure
it out easily to update the bios.

Well, I think with the cheapie prices of hard drives and the low cost of USB
enclosure, I am
going that route for now. I'll burn on DvD, plus put a copy of the project
on a spare hard
drive. Of course watch out for rip-offs. Those external hard drives sold
in wally mart and
such are nothing more than a hard drive in an enclosure. And they paste a
20% something
on them... They simply cost too much! Buy and make your own. Also, since
I started buying
enclosures... remember, you get what you pay for. If the enclosure is a
cheapie.. THAT is what
you'll get. I have one here called Bytecc. I like it, but not cheap. I
also have a Sabrent... I think
it was $19.95 at TigerDirect.... very fragile and not easy to mount the
drive.
I did finally get my data off those corrupt DvDs. It took a long time and a
lot of patience.
To explain further. My drives would read the disk fine... it was usually
when it got to the
last folders on the disk when it would error. I'd eject the DvD, push it
back in... wait for
a sec... and try again. It was time consuming. I also learned not to copy
a bunch of folders.
Only one folder at a time and sometimes a few files in the folder at a time.

HDs sound like a good safety net. I have lost data on a couple when they
went bad though.
Was able to retrieve some off of one that would still run, with a recovery
utility.
CDs have worked out good for me for data and MP3s, even using the cheapest
Taiwan cds I mostly got free + tax at sales. For about a year now I have
been
using the DVDs, mostly the +R made in Japan and I hope they hold up for the
long term (x).
But still keeping my important stuff on CD. Optical is really cheap storage
but they
sure scratch easy and are subject to UV light.
Cheers, E
