Hey man, are you SURE that the Mytek convertors sound better
than the RME's? Not that I'm doubting your word, I'm just
wondering if the fact that you're using a Fireface (Firewire
buss) vs. a Multiface (PCI buss) makes a differece?
I just don't see how a better convertor set than the Multiface
can be had for less than some ungodly-high price point (perhaps
I am ignorant, though, I will allow- - i haven't tried
everything that's out there... i just know how good/how well
these reproduce accurate audio).
Talk to us, Dimi. Have you compared anything in the RME realm
besides the Fireface to the Mytek?

Dimitrios has an older Mytek AD/DA 24bit/48kHZ capable converter. I had it
here briefly before I transshipped it to him. It is a work of art. These are
built like a brick shithouse and were very expensive back when they were
being manufactured. When I compared it to my Mytek Stereo96 AD and DA (at
44.1/48), I could hear basically no difference at all. Dimitrios likely has
the system clocked to this box as well which wouldn't hurt anything. I did a
little comparison to my RME converters (and I have also compared my Mytek
AD/DA's) to both the Multiface and a couple of ADI8-DS units I have here. My
entire system is clocked off the distributed signal of the Mytek AD
converter and I don't really think the RME converters are majorly inferior
sounding in comparison to the Mytek. There ares some differences but they
are more along the lines of *differences* rather than super extreme
improvements in detail and imaging. Maybe my ears just like certain
converters or maybe the FF800 converters suck in comparison with the older
Multiface converters, which seem to have a bit of a cult following. I have
actually seen people in black hooded robes carrying torches and chanting
while walking down the road outside my house with a Multiface on a small
altar on the back of a donkey cart during full moons. I really sorta prefer
the Multiface converters to the more expensive ADI8-DS converters. It's not
like I'm going to ditch them, but there is a tiny difference that I think I
probably hear, sometimes, maybe, if the wind is blowing in the right
direction, the humidity levels are just right and I've had proper amounts of
caffiene and sugar administered interveniously.

So, Chris...
If I'm not going out of my D/A's to a tape deck like Dimitrios
is doing, if I were to get let's say a Mytek, or perhaps even a
Lavry Blue D/A set & locked the Multiface to the Lavry clock
(which claim to be a killer jitter-eliminator) & then rendered
my mix to disk in Cubase as normal, would I hear a difference
between that mix & one that was rendered with the Multiface
clocked either to itself or to my Lucid GenX6-96?

HI Neil,
If you didn't have the the Lucid hooked up and were just clocking the
Multiface from the Lavry or Mytek then maybe but I don't think you will
if the Cubase file is rendered in Cubase. If you ran it through
converters in a real time bounce or if you mixed the while project then
it mill probably be a little different sense those converters do have
some sound difference than the RME. You will have to do a whole lot of
comparison tests with different clocking scenarios. But I bet the
results will be so close as to be questionable as to whether a file is
already recorded and mixed rendered internal in Cubase will sound
different if using different clocks sources. I'm sure I'll be disagreed
with but sense it is just an opinion not a scientifically based
statement take it with a grain of salt.

Hi Neil,
The difference beetween the Mytek's DA and RME ADI-PRO8 DA is night and day
for me.
The difference beetween AD is not big.
The Mytek has almost totally lack of distortion across bandwith while rme
has much there and I am sure itr is because of jitter.
The mytek's device has jitter elimination circuitry on botha analog and digital
in/out.
Also there is a punch and stereo widening.
What else should I detect to say that mytek are superior.
I am not fond of the rme stuff as much as the nhype around them.
I find their sound totally unpunched ,some might say warm, a smiley curve
meaning there is not great mid clarity and the stereo image is just ok until
you hear a Mytek or lavry DA !
The RME's ad section clocked by mytek sounds nice.
Regards,
Dimitrios

DS, ADI-2 or ADI8-QS models.
>>> The RME converters used =
on the=20
used on the Fireface, Multiface and
>>> HDSP9632 are =
some of=20
the best you will get integrated onto a sound card.
>>> =
The=20
Myteks should logically sound better than the Multiface and =
>>>=20
Fireface. If they didn't I don't think Mytek would be in=20
business..:)
>>>
>>>
>>>> Not =
that=20
I'm doubting your word, I'm just
>>>> wondering if =
the fact=20
that you're using a Fireface (Firewire
>>>> buss) vs. =
a=20
Multiface (PCI buss) makes a=20
differece?
>>>>
>>>>
>>> =
The=20
Fireface 800 has slightly better converters than the Multiface. The=20
>>> Multiface has the same converters as the Fireface =
400.=20
There is not
>>> sound difference being caused by one =
being=20
Fire wire and one being=20
PCI.
>>>
>>>
>>>> I just =
don't see=20
how a better convertor set than the Multiface
>>>> =
can be had=20
for less than some ungodly-high price point =
(perhaps
>>>> I=20
am ignorant, though, I will allow- - i haven't =
tried
>>>>=20
everything that's out there... i just know how good/how=20
well
>>>> these reproduce accurate=20
audio).
>>>>
>>>>
>>> It =
can't.=20
Mytek makes nothing that is the same price wise and
>>> =
functionality wish that comes close the value of these RME =
converters.=20
>>> It wouldn't be fair to be comparing the price of a =
used or=20
discontinued
>>> piece of Mytek gear. The closest =
product they=20
make that can honestly be
>>> compared is the 8x192 =
with the=20
fire wire option card but that sell for
>>>=20
=
$3900.
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>>=

Talk to us, Dimi. Have you compared anything in the RME=20
