Last time I checked (it's been a while), compact files didn't work with Paris
V3. Is there any solution to this?
The only think I can think of is to have a version of 2.2 installed on a
separate boot partition (does 2.2 work on XP?) just for this purpose.

Not sure, I've never used the compact files function but the way I handle
unused takes in 3.0 is keep everything till then end of a project and then I
do a "select unused" in the audio window and delete em, then archive
everything onto data DVD.
Of course, this is assuming you have plenty of data drive space.

Yup. Problem is I'm working on about a bazillion projects at once (never a
good idea).
Compact files would still be v useful - e.g. I'm also doing a bunch of solo
acoustic stuff. Since I have to run between rooms to start / stop recording,
it'd be nice to be able to trim the excess as I go through. It'd also help
delete sections when I just leave the tape rolling.
Still, yet more HDs on the way...

You could render track (or selection) to disk. Brand new files, just like
you want them, then delete the old ones.

That still wouldn't accomplish what compacting the files would however it
will free up some space. For me the broken compact files funtion was a HUGE
loss in V3. :(

You could just render the segments to disk. That way you'd have only the
parts you want, and you could give them meaningful names.
