It's with a heavy heart that I share the news of my friend, and someone we all looked up to here in Paris land.

Brian died This morning at 9am (Feb. 5) of Covid 19. He was in the hospital fighting for over 30 days, his body finally gave out.

I met Brian in 1998 on the Paris forum, and became great friends and was lucky to work together on my recording projects.

He had such a larger than life presence about him in everything he did, as well as on these forums, and in our beloved Paris world.

Say a prayer for his wife and family, and love those around you.

Oh man - so sorry to hear this. He was such a positive influence to many many folks. I met him when he came to Toronto to demo Paris 20+ years ago. Quite sad and unnerving.

Thank you so much for letting us know, Michael. This is a sad day. I met Brian around the same time when he was in Vancouver. He was a true gent - always a helping hand and a voice of positivity. I'm glad he got to spend so much of his life doing the music he loved so deeply. He will be missed.

Prayers to his family and friends. I never met Brian but felt like I did, when I watched the PARIS DVD with Aaron helping. Rest in peace.

So sad to hear this. I remember Brian on the original PARIS boards back in the late 90's, or maybe early 2000's. He had a system running 128 tracks back then. During those early years, when it looked like that PARIS could be a viable thing, Brian was the guy. I never got the opportunity to meet him, but from his posts and all of the help he offered the PARIS community he seemed like a great guy.

My deepest condolences to his wife and family.

This is awful to know...

He was amongst those columns into PARIS community, everyone admired him.
I've seen his tutorial videos, looked a very gentle man.

I spoke with Brian a few times on the phone. He was wonderful to talk to. He was enthusiastic, supportive and kind. He sent me some 442s to test the driver with because I didn't have any. I probably was just using one of his 442s when I was re-working the code that initializes MECs and 442s over the holidays. I would have sent him a driver update in the next few weeks. I'm just heartbroken, both that he's gone and for his family's loss. He'll be missed.

Wow, what a week...Brian Tankersley, Chick Corea, and Rupert Neve all passing...
I learned most of my Paris habits from the DVD that Brian Tankersley and Aaron Allen made...one of which was
saying "Boom" when I dial something up:)
If all of us around here continue to use Paris, continue to have "ears"(like he said),and
are positive helpful Gentlemen(like he was), then he will be missed, but never forgotten...
and it won't hurt to say "Boom" once in a while... Loren

Oh Man. that's so sad.
He was somewhat of a hero to me. I even talked about PARIS with him about a year ago (A producer friend had dealings with him).
Truly a Gentleman. RIP. Sad

What a bummer. I literally (like 2 hours ago) just watched a few minutes of that video to remember how to do something. Then I logged in here and saw this. Brian was star.

Coolest Brian trick from that video?????? Hardwire the SPDIF "in" to the "out" for clever routing tricks- especially with Autotune, or vocal comping to send to a new track.

Yesterday I gave a closer look to Brian's Vimeo tutorials. It makes sad to see his kind person and know he passed away too soon because of that virus.

His approach to recordings was just the opposite of what I used to follow, the audiophile/pristine Bob Katz school: BT tracks flow was entirely 16 bits and suggested to crank to "overs" the EDS as if Paris would be an analog gear!
Well, yesterday I tried, it gives surprising results with Eq in low shelving mode, with the original compressor, with Chuck's stereo chorus...A new wide palette of timbre shaping.
Felt like wasted this sonic opportunity for 23 years!!

Mr. Philip, it's maybe because I'm not exactly a teacher in english, but I didn't understand this trick of hardwiring the Spdif I/O...
Could you please tell me in simple words an useful example of the technique?

I'm just learning of his passing reading this very sad news. Brian was such a class act and inspiration for me and many PARIS users.

OMG i just pulled out my old files and find all the PARIS software and DVD, watched it... and scrubbing thrue the forum(which i havent done for years,more like 10)... and just saw that He died... Im so sorry to hear it... my sincere condolences to the familly and friends.
