OK, I really didn't think this would turn into a discussion, so I
apologize for that. But I just wanted to say one thing before I drop this.
It's absurd to say "they're all . . . " anything. Whenever I hear huge
generalities about any group of people, I figure I'm listening to someone
who simply doesn't want to really look a little deeper. There are honest,
ethical people in government, and if they're outnumbered it's precisely
because as fat, comfy Americans we have been apathetic and cynical long
enough to let the crooks and liars take over.
And even if it was true that they're ALL bad, which it isn't, I would
still be saying, "Please vote," because sometimes choosing between the
lesser of two evils is a life or death decision.

They all suck. NONE of them have any plans! I have better plans for building
a dog house than this bunch of idiots have? Which genius have I overlooked
?
Actually, I was going to build a dog house today and I did a complete plan
and did a cost list before I bought the materials and the house I was building
was going to be $200 so I bought one for $169 that suits me ok. So here
I am costing things out before I execute them. What a concept !!

Why don't you submit yourself for public office, John.
You might even be able to change the world, but wait, you could never get
Paris working properly, so maybe that's not such a great idea either.

I mean it's a good idea to vote, trying to change America a bit for the
worlds sake. We can all be small wheels helping the bigger ones to go around
and make a better world for us all, whereever we're living in our great,
little world of today. Especially when we have got the choice to vote, where
so many good people around the world have fighted for up against the years.
We have all heard the words "Human Rights" up against the years, but how
many of us are doing something with it? Sarah is one of them trying to do
something, where some other better wish to build or buy a doghouse for their
own world;-)

You know John, I hear you! Maybe you should run for office?
The problem I see is this: people are for the most part pretty stupid.
Shocking, I know. Who in this country would actually read a detailed plan
of action? I think if there were enough people who demand that (over say
probably the meager 15% who care) that might happen. But that doesn't sound
like the US to me...
Who actually cares about anything if nothing really touches their daily lives?
At what point does your average citizen stand up and go to the streets?
I'm really amazed at our populace's (and my own) ability to sit comfortably
watching TV. But if you don't have a draft touching you, or if you don't
think your privacy counts for anything, then no one really cares. Sad, really.
But I feel like my own voice is pretty drowned out by complacency...
I also hope my vote is counted, even if I can't stand most of the people
I'm voting for. Would our election process stand up to world scrutiny?
No. There has to be a better way.
Oh, and while I'm on a rant, I can't stand that horrible John Mellencamp
"song" Chevrolet is hawking on TV. Oh, right, rural white dudes own the
country. We've come so far!
So, how many of us here are still using Paris?

Well, you're free to vote or not, and sit around waiting for perfection
to come knocking. Hope that works out OK for you. At least you won't be
voting for someone you think is incompetent.
I'm with Sarah, definitely not sitting this one out. And since I see no
reason to trust hackable voting machines, I'm voting absentee on a paper
ballot.

absentee ballots aren't even counted unless the margin is small enough for
them to make a difference. It doesn't sound right to me, but that's what
someone said on some radio talk show (don't even remember what show it was).

Could they have been referring to "provisional ballots" rather than
absentee ballots?
