I'm currently using a Steinberg Houston controller. I had been thinking
about getting one of those Mackie control units (MCU) for quite a while but
I wanted to try one out first. When I was in Denver, I had a chance to look
one over while Aaron and I were at GC. What a cheap, flimsy feeling POS
compared to the Houston. Really inferior as far as workmanship, IMO. The
ability to add more faders is nice on these , but I'm liking being able to
just jump to different fader sets on the Houston and stay right in the sweet
spot. If you're using Cubase or Nuendo, I would recommend getting the
Houston..........yeah, I know it's been discontinued and may not really
integrate as well with other programs (though it will work in HUI mode) ,
but, with the exception of the USB driver, they will continue to support it
and it maps itself flawlessly to Cubase or Nuendo. Since it will work with
midi, the USB driver isn't an issue so this will allow it to move into the
64 bit software when it is released. The only bummer about it is that I
can't get it to enable/disable the track monitoring buttons on the Cubase
GUI. I'm looking into this though and maybe I've missed something. Other
than having to mouse these, it's functionality with the Steiny products is
very nice and they are cheap on EBay compared to the Mackie stuff.
I wish Paris would have had something like this.
