I saw Maynard in 1980 with my high school jazz band. It was a great show.

Sorry to hear about Maynard's passing. I liked his work, and played some
of his music in different bands. I got my big break in high school Jazz
band when I got to play a drum solo in the song Gonna Fly Now, the Rocky
theme song. It was fun playing thet stuff.

The band that I was in during the late 70's covered "Gonna Fly Now" as
part of a semi-disco dance set of tunes we did when playing clubs. I
played trumpet on it, but we had to move the song's key down a step,
'cause I couldn't hit the high F# at the end to save my life.

That's my Maynard memory...
