Hi Everyone,

I just found my old MEC manual, so I scanned it.

I also scanned the old warranty card and the EDS1000x manual.

The THD+N for the MEC are fantastic.

All the best,

Mike

Ah you're a top man!

That explains something about the DAC/ADC conversion and why it sounds good - Ensoniq used delta sigma type conversion.

This type of conversion is highly prized by audiophiles, and they go to great lengths to find old chips like the Phillips "Double Crown" DAC. Technically the numbers are not as good as newer digital technologies, but some people believe the music just sounds better with the older type of conversion.

I don't really understand this stuff, but the old chips were multibit delta-sigma and Ensoniq are using some type of 1-bit system.

This also makes it official that the MEC as standard is 20 bit.

I was told by someone who worked at Ensoniq that the guy who designed the circuit used to buy audio hardware, decide what he liked or didn't like about it, and take it apart to find out why it sounded the way it did. He was like a mad scientist for audio.

Maybe he even took apart the Phillips "Double Crown" DAC and based the MEC on that. Smile

These manuals are very helpful. Does anyone have manuals for the 8-input, the 8-Output, or the ADAT modules? I'd like to know whatever info is available about the converters and other little-known facts.
